Re Jala Peo - Botswana Celebrates Young Environmental Champions in Maun

Re Jala Peo successfully hosted its 5th Environmental Awareness Conference and Christmas Market at Maun Lodge on 29 November 2025, bringing together learners, educators, parents and partners for a vibrant celebration of environmental education and youth empowerment.

Under the theme " Bird Migration,” Junior Rangers and Aflatoun Club members from 17 schools and one playgroup showcased their learning through presentations and performances, highlighting the importance of conservation and community responsibility. The event reflected months of learning under Re Jala Peo’s Junior Ranger and Aflatoun Social and Financial Education programmes.

The festive Christmas Market added excitement as young social entrepreneurs sold eco-friendly products made from recycled materials, reinforcing lessons in sustainability, creativity and entrepreneurship.

Supported by Chobe Impact, the event embodied Re Jala Peo’s vision of creating a happier, healthier and greener Botswana. As we share highlights from the day, we look forward to seeing Re Jala Peo continue to inspire and empower young leaders across the country in 2026 and beyond.

Happy 1st day of the week & New Month to all!
December 1st, 2025 marks a pivotal moment in my story, the evolution of Zandile “The Soul Sister” Kekgonegile. A 31 year old woman who once faced depression, betrayal, heartbreak and public shame. But today, I stand strong, unapologetically myself and ready to step fully into my destiny.

Here is my uncensored story to mark the beginning of a new journey, as I release all past pain along with all of my worries. At 17 the year was 2011, my name was smeared across the media imagine TRENDING then chomie, a target for gossip, which pushed me to the brink of su***de. But in my darkest moment, my uncle Keabetswe Kebza Kekgonegile reminded me that I control my fate. That wisdom planted the seed of the woman I’ve become.

My transformation began with the birth of my son, Munashe Bandile Atasaone, meaning “With God” and “He is with us”. His birth marked my rebirth. Later, I was blessed with Anaya Andile Bokani (“God answered” and “Praise”). They are my living legacy, my strength, and my PURPOSE.

I was raised by a staunch black family meaning Batswana ba sekei hehehe, grounded in humility, hard work and botho. My grandfather, a former Police detective back in the 90's I knew that because he wore a suite to work , instilled in me that success comes from purpose for him it was his 11 kids which he all raised, not privilege. My mother Sennye Kekgonegile showed me the true meaning of unconditional love, even during my deepest struggles with depression. She supported me financially until I was 24, believing in me when I couldn’t believe in myself.

She never let me fall even when my light flickered. She made me who I am, not anyone else.

This year, I fully embraced my purpose, to rise, not only for myself but for my children and generations to come. I’ve been silently building, preparing for this moment and I’m now ready to claim my power. This is my declaration! It’s only UP from here.

Today, I plant my flag on destiny’s soil and rise to meet the woman I was born to be, unapologetically, unbreakably and in full alignment with my true purpose.

This is my evolution.
This is the Soul Sister.
This is my time.
