Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) has announced temporary load shedding following a forced outage that has necessitated the shutdown of Unit 1 at the Morupule B Power Station.
Unit 1 is expected to return to service by Thursday, 23 April 2026.
BPC says it is working to commission Unit 3 this week, following its remediation for long-term operation, with supply expected to normalise by the end of the week.
To minimise inconvenience, BPC says it is maximising alternative energy sources, including solar power from existing photovoltaic plants during daytime hours.
Load shedding will be implemented from 21 to 24 April 2026, primarily during peak periods of 6:00am to 10:00am and 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
BPC has urged customers to conserve electricity during peak hours and says it will continue to share regular updates via social media, SMS alerts, and other communication channels.
Despite the current disruptions, BPC says it has achieved its highest plant uptime of 84% in the last quarter of the 2025/2026 financial year, while reducing power imports from 35% to 22% of national demand.
The corporation has apologised for the inconvenience.
