Q. How long do acting classes take?

A. Our acting classes take a week. The rest of the month we shoot monologues and short films. We also help our actors to look for and get acting jobs.

Q. What can I expect from the acting classes?

A. Day 1: We give you a script to read so that we can test and know how you interpret a script. (This is done to find out how much you know, so that we know how much to teach you.)

Day 2: You will be given a script to read at home as an assignment. Day 3: You present what you learnt and then we rehearse for shooting.

Day 4: We shoot acting classes.

Day 5: We sign actors under our acting agency which will brand or re-brand them amongst other benefits.

Highlights from our acting classes in Francistown. Only four people registered, but I told myself that even if only one person registered, I would still go. The most important part of doing something is to start and stay consistent. I’m confident that people in Francistown will join our next classes because they’ve now seen what we can do. Investing in something doesn’t mean you must have millions in your account

In Botswana, we lack places where people can go to develop their skills. We don’t have strong structures to drive our film industry, and we don’t have enough programs that invest in talent or create opportunities.

When I approached the Ministry of Youth, I was told I wasn’t educated enough because I have failed Form 3 and no film qualification. That meant I wouldn’t receive government support to start Film Garden. But even without funding, I kept going.

Since 2015, I have been running a film program with no financial support. I had to turn my bedroom into a workspace. I sleep on the floor, and every morning I fold my blankets to create space to run the program. Today, that small room has produced over 100 talents.

Through our acting program, our actors have been cast in DStv adverts, Mzansi Magic films, and have worked with major brands like Spar and FNB. We have an actress acting on Showmax. Our scriptwriting projects have screened on international platforms and won several awards.

I always tell my talent: if I had made excuses about not having money, Film Garden wouldn’t exist today. Financial challenges should never stop you from pursuing your dream. I invested in the film industry without income, without funding, without support just passion and belief.

Many Batswana don’t want to invest in the film industry because they say there is no money in it. But I believe we, as Batswana, are responsible for growing our own industry. If we want people to invest in our film industry, it must start with us investing in it first.

We guide you in opening your film business, including help with tendering documents, registration, and opening a business bank account.

5. Film Production & Distribution Support
We help you shoot your film and assist you with selling and distributing your project.
