MORUPULE B POWER STATION UNIT ONE TO UNDERGO MAINTENANCE
Morupule B power station's unit one is planned to undergo statutory maintenance from August 1 to September 30.
A press release from Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) says that the statutory maintenance is a requirement carried out every 14 months, with a maximum extension of up to 18 months under monitored conditions.
Unit one which currently produces 120MW, is said to have reached the 18 months operational limit and must undergo maintenance to ensure continued safe and efficient performance.
BPC further explains that there will be a temporary reduction in available baseload capacity, which may lead to supply shortfalls during peak demand period.
To maintain grid stability and manage these deficits, the says explains that the corporation will be compelled to source replacement power from the regional market, which come at a cost.
BPC therefore encourages customers to adopt energy-saving practices, especially during peak hours, that is from 6am to 10am and from 6pm to 10pm.
