Founded in 2018, Sefako Choristers is a Gaborone-based community choir and non-profit cultural organisation built on the philosophy “Sing • Connect • Belong.” With more than 60 voices, the choir brings together people from diverse backgrounds, united by a passion for music, culture and community.

Sefako goes beyond singing. It provides opportunities for vocal training, music theory, performance, leadership and mentorship, welcoming members aged 16 and above regardless of previous musical experience.

Its diverse repertoire celebrates Botswana and Africa, ranging from classical, gospel and sacred music to traditional, folk, contemporary and ceremonial works. Through music, Sefako promotes cultural preservation, unity and community development.

The choir has performed at major platforms including the National Arts Festival, National Independence Church Service, Tsholofelong Foundation Christmas Carols, Tiro Mpane Foundation National Choral Eisteddfod and the GLOBAL EXPO closing ceremony. In 2025, Sefako made history as the first choir to perform the Batlokwa National Anthem during the Batlokwa's 145-year celebration.

In 2026, Sefako will become the first choir from Botswana to compete in the Buang Moloto Choral Competitions, marking another milestone in its growing journey.

Beyond performances, Sefako is committed to community service through charity initiatives, awareness campaigns, fundraising and youth development programmes.

Looking ahead, the choir aims to produce professional albums, establish a chamber orchestra, develop internationally competitive soloists, expand training opportunities and participate in international festivals and partnerships.

Sefako welcomes partnerships with government, corporates, educational institutions, churches, embassies, NGOs and individual patrons to support music education, youth development, community outreach and cultural preservation.

Kinder World Day Care in Block 7, Gaborone, will this Saturday, 12 September, celebrate 15 years of nurturing young learners with a family fun day starting at 07:00hrs. Speaking ahead of the milestone, teacer Phondy said the anniversary will bring together the school community to celebrate its journey and achievements.

Teacher Phondy said the celebrations will feature a packed programme of activities, including a colour run and family-oriented entertainment. She said the event is expected to attract current learners, parents, teachers and members of the wider community for a day of celebration.

She said the school is also expecting former students and parents who were part of Kinder World when it opened 15 years ago to return for the occasion. Their participation, she said, will provide an opportunity to reconnect with the institution and reflect on its growth.

The anniversary will therefore combine celebration with reflection, as Kinder World looks back on 15 years of early childhood education while bringing together generations of families who have passed through the school.

Held from 10 to 11 September 2026, the EXPO attracted about 700 participants, including university students, new graduates, unemployed youth and aspiring entrepreneurs seeking practical knowledge to navigate the world of work and business.

The programme focuses on Finance, Leadership, Marketing, Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence, exposing participants to emerging trends while providing insights that can strengthen their professional and entrepreneurial ambitions.

Stanbic Bank Botswana Acting Chief Executive Thomas Mpedi says businesses must navigate a difficult operating environment while pursuing investment, efficiency and new markets. He made the remarks during the bank’s CIB Connect Series in Gaborone.

Held under the theme “Competitiveness in a Challenging Economic Environment”, the forum brought together Government officials, business leaders, clients and industry stakeholders to examine trade, investment, productivity and opportunities for growth.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship Joel Ramaphoi urged entrepreneurs to move beyond dependence on government contracts and build companies capable of winning international business. He also called on firms to involve banks early when planning expansion.

Stanbic economist Godfrey Mwanza said economic indicators were beginning to signal a gradual recovery, expressing optimism about Botswana’s economic outlook despite short-term adjustments caused by recent policy measures.

The discussions focused on expanding local productive capacity, strengthening value chains, attracting private investment and helping Botswana businesses compete beyond the domestic market, with Stanbic reaffirming its role in supporting enterprise growth across Botswana and Africa.

BoFiNet received the Digital Development Innovator 2026 Award from Ribbon Communications. The award was presented in London on 8 September 2026, recognising BoFiNet's work connecting rural and sub-urban Botswana.

Ribbon's Innovative Customer Awards honour customers driving innovation and business results. BoFiNet was chosen for bridging the digital divide and advancing Botswana's development agenda as it builds a regional digital hub.

CEO Dr Geoffrey Seleka said the award endorses BoFiNet's vision for a digitally inclusive Botswana. As custodian of national broadband infrastructure, BoFiNet views connectivity as a catalyst for economic transformation, social inclusion and national competitiveness.

Seleka went on to say BoFiNet is expanding its portfolio, including the Digital Delta Data Centre, Botswana's Tier III-certified, carrier-neutral facility. It aims to accelerate digital transformation and create lasting value for every Motswana.

Arafat Khan has rejected claims that trade unions, or the Botswana Federation of Public, Private and Parastatal Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU), were responsible for forming the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) following the 2011 public sector strike.

Khan described the claims as a distortion of the coalition’s history, arguing that efforts to unite Botswana’s opposition parties were already underway before the strike. His intervention comes amid renewed debate over the origins of the political formation and the contributions of different actors.

According to Khan, the process that eventually produced the UDC can be traced to political developments preceding the 2011 strike.

He points to the Botswana National Front’s (BNF) 2010 elective congress in Mochudi, where Advocate Duma Gideon Boko was elected leader. Khan says the congress gave the new leadership a clear mandate to engage other opposition parties and pursue their unification, with the broader objective of ending the Botswana Democratic Party’s (BDP) long-standing dominance through a united opposition political movement.

Following the congress, the BNF Central Committee constituted a negotiation team led by the late David Rendoh. The team engaged the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD), Botswana People’s Party (BPP) and Botswana Congress Party (BCP) in discussions aimed at bringing opposition parties together. Khan says the BCP later withdrew after disagreements over five constituencies during the first round of negotiations. When the talks were revived, he says, the BCP did not participate and instead maintained its opposition to the proposed arrangement.

Khan argues that the pursuit of opposition unity was not a new political undertaking initiated after the public-sector strike. He points to the 2004 Pact involving the BNF, BPP and Botswana Alliance Movement (BAM) as evidence of earlier attempts to consolidate opposition forces.
