🎤 We’re Back, !
After a short break, your favourite Tswana Vibes Online Radio Station is back on Facebook—and we couldn’t be more excited to kick off our return by spotlighting a story that has tongues wagging across the local music scene: Yarona FM’s 9th YAMAs Prize Money Breakdown.
Spotlight on the Numbers
At this year’s YAMAs, Yarona FM is dishing out:
People’s Choice Artist of the Year – P10 000
People’s Choice Song of the Year – P10 000
All Other Categories (Best Male/Female Single, Producer of the Year, Best Newcomer, Best Hip Hop, Dance, R&B, Collabo, Amapiano, Botswana Pop, Social Media, DJ) – P5 000 each
Special Awards (Icon Award & Hall Of Fame) – P10 000 each
While social media buzz has questioned whether these sums are “too small,” the real story lies beneath the numbers.
Why It Matters
In a market where local talent often struggles for airtime—let alone financial backing—Yarona FM’s steadfast commitment to the YAMAs sends a powerful message: our artists deserve recognition. Year after year, these awards shatter the silence around homegrown music, delivering cash prizes, studio time, and priceless exposure when corporate sponsors are still hesitant to open their wallets.
Despite routinely licensing our artists’ IPs—using their voices, videos, and designs to market products—many Botswana corporates shy away from sponsoring the very platforms that uplift our creative community. That disconnect makes Yarona FM’s annual prize pool, modest as it might seem, all the more vital. It’s not just about the P5k or P10k; it’s about keeping the momentum alive, shining a spotlight on new voices, and reminding everyone—from DJs to dance crews—that this industry is worth celebrating.
