FROM BLAST BEATS TO BEAUTY QUEEN:
MISS CHILE 2025 IS A DEATH METAL MUSIC VOCALIST!!
Ignacia Fernández, crowned Miss World Chile 2025, is also the ferocious frontwoman of progressive death metal band DECESSUS, proving beauty queens can scream just as hard as they shine. In a world where pageantry and death metal music rarely share the same stage, Ignacia Fernández has shattered expectations and eardrums. Crowned Miss World Chile 2025, Fernández isn’t just a poised beauty queen with a dazzling smile. She’s also the ferocious band leader of Decessus, a progressive death metal music band that’s been tearing up the Santiago underground scene since 2020. When Fernández stepped onto the Miss World Chile stage, few expected what came next. Dressed in a sleek black gown, she ditched the usual ballad or dance routine and instead delivered a guttural, growling performance of “Dark Flames,” a Decessus original. The crowd erupted. Judges were stunned. And the internet? It exploded. Then she had this to say, “I wanted to show that femininity and ferocity aren’t opposites, I’ve been screaming into microphones for years. This time, I just did it in heels.”
Ignacia Fernández band, Decessus was formed in the shadows of Santiago’s industrial districts, Decessus blends technical death metal music with progressive structures and lyrical themes that explore mortality, mythology and mental health. With Fernández’s vocals ranging from underground lows to piercing shrieks, the band has built a loyal following across Latin America. Their debut EP, “Corpus Nihil,” dropped in 2022 and earned praise from underground zines for its brutal precision and philosophical depth. Now, with Fernández’s newfound fame, Decessus is poised to break into the global metal consciousness. Fernández’s dual identity has sparked debate and admiration. Critics of the pageant world call her a disruptor. Metal purists call her a trailblazer but Fernández shrugs off the labels and she had this to say to those kind,
“I’m not here to fit into anyone’s mold,” she says. I can wear a crown and still scream about existential dread. That’s the point.”
As she prepares to represent Chile at the Miss World finals, Fernández is also working on Decessus’s first full-length album, slated for release in early 2026. Rumors swirl of a European tour and a possible collaboration with members of Gojira and Jinjer.
Whether she’s commanding a runway or a mosh pit, one thing is clear, Ignacia Fernández is redefining what it means to be a queen.
