STANBIC BANK BOTSWANA DOUBLES DOWN ON YOUTH IN GOLF, DIRECTING GOLF DAY 2025 PROCEEDS TO THE NEXT GENERATION

Stanbic Bank Botswana has reaffirmed its commitment to securing the future of golf through deliberate investment in youth development, using its successful 2025 Golf Day as a platform to shift focus from participation alone to long-term sustainability of the sport. The Bank announced that all proceeds raised from the event will be channelled into initiatives designed to attract young people to golf, develop their skills, and keep them in the game, placing youth firmly at the centre of its golf development agenda.

Held on 5 December 2025 under the theme “Boldly Blue: Proudly Botswana,” the Stanbic Bank Botswana Golf Day brought together clients, partners and members of the golfing community for a celebration of sport, culture and shared purpose. While the event reaffirmed the Bank’s long-standing investment in growing golf and supporting increased participation across the sport - including women’s golf - youth development emerged as the defining focus for 2025.

Speaking at the Golf Day, Stanbic Bank Botswana Chief Executive Chose Modise emphasised that the Bank’s partnership with the Stanbic Bank Gaborone Golf Club (SBGGC) has always been rooted in impact rather than visibility. “When we partnered with the SBGGC in 2022, the intention was never just to put a logo on a board. It was to help strengthen, revive and grow a place that means so much to the golfing community,” said Modise. “While we are encouraged by progress across the Club, youth participation has remained flat, and that concerns us. If the next generation isn’t here, the future of the sport is at risk. This is where we will be shifting more focus going forward.”

That focus translated into tangible outcomes to date, and certainly on this year’s Golf Day. Through the support and generosity of Hole Sponsors, P205 000 was raised during the Golf Day and fully ringfenced for youth golf development. Of this amount, P150 000 will be allocated towards equipment, while P55 000 will be dedicated to structured coaching fees, ensuring that young golfers have both access to the tools of the game and the technical support required to progress.

These investments form part of a broader ecosystem approach to golf development that Stanbic Bank Botswana has supported over time. The Bank’s sustained sponsorship has contributed to growth in club membership, increased rounds of golf, stronger corporate participation, and the stabilisation of women’s participation in 2025 following earlier declines and thus reinforcing the value of long-term, purpose-led partnerships in sport.

“These are not just numbers or funds raised on a single day,” Modise added. “They are proof that when sponsorship is rooted in partnership, purpose and consistency, the whole ecosystem grows. This is what we mean when we say Botswana is our home, and we drive her growth.”

Stanbic Bank Botswana will continue working closely with the SBGGC to ensure that resources invested today translate into meaningful impact. This means real access, sustained participation and a stronger pipeline of young golfers for the future of the sport in Botswana.

POSOINSURE, BEPA PARTNERS FOR THE EVOLUTION OF BOTSWANA’S ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY

BotswanaPost through its subsidiary PosoInsure, on Tuesday 9 December 2025, officially signed a partnership agreement with Botswana Entertainment Promoters Association (BEPA) aimed at strengthening progress, protection and a shared commitment to support entertainment promoters nationwide.

This validates PosoInsure to come up with insurance policy scheme that offers sought solutions which reflect the realities of the entertainment landscape, solutions that protect lives, assets, mobility and livelihoods of promoters.

Giving his remarks to members of the press, BotswanaPost Chief Executive Officer, Cornelius Ramatlhakwane emphasized that “the entertainment industry is one of the heartbeat sectors of Botswana. It brings people together, drives cultural expression, creates jobs and contributes meaningfully to our economy. Yet despite its importance, it has historically operated without adequate, structured financial protection”.

Through this partnership, PosoInsure crafted a comprehensive suite of offerings built around affordability, relevance and real protection to this targeted industry.
PosoInsure will provide a funeral cover policy of P25,000.00 to BEPA members and P50,000 cover incase they are involved in an accident. In addition to this, BEPA has paid in advance a subscription for their members for the next 12 months period.

DUMELA BOTSWANA: CONTINENTAL REINSURANCE HOLDINGS ANNOUNCES RELOCATION TO BOTSWANA, MARKING A NEW ERA OF GROWTH

Continental Reinsurance Holdings is pleased to confirm the successful relocation of the Group Holding Company from Mauritius to the Republic of Botswana, following the completion of all logistical, statutory, and regulatory requirements. This milestone marks a pivotal step in the Group’s evolution and underscores our strong confidence in Botswana as one of Africa’s most stable and forward-looking financial services hubs.
Founded in Nigeria four decades ago, Continental Reinsurance has built one of the continent’s most trusted reinsurance networks, serving clients across more than 50 countries in Africa. The Group later moved its holding structure to Mauritius to accelerate access to global capital and strategic expansion. Now, as Continental Reinsurance positions itself for its next growth horizon, Botswana has emerged as the preferred home for its future: a jurisdiction that combines stability, sound governance, financial sector reforms, and a commitment to long-term economic transformation.

The newly relocated holding company, manned by a team of professionals, will operate separately from the company’s well-established Botswana subsidiary, which has maintained a strong presence in Gaborone for the past 11 years. The Botswana subsidiary currently serves a growing client base, contributing meaningfully to the Group’s Africa-wide network of more than 1,000 cedants and brokers.

Mr. Lawrence Mutsunge Nazare, Group Managing Director of Continental Reinsurance Holdings, described the relocation as both a strategic and symbolic milestone for the group. “This move reflects our deep commitment to Africa, and our conviction that Botswana offers a uniquely enabling environment for long-term investment. The country’s stability, institutional maturity and progressive reforms provide the foundation we require as a Pan-African reinsurer with global ambitions. The culture and ‘botho’ infused into how Botswana – and Batswana – do business is something we are inspired by. Indeed, Botswana mirrors the values we embody: integrity in conduct, passion for our mission, collaboration rooted in mutual respect, responsiveness to evolving needs, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.”

Continental Reinsurance provides comprehensive risk solutions to insurers across Africa, offering both treaty and facultative reinsurance across life and non-life classes. Guided by its philosophy of delivering Pan-African commitment, made local, the company blends deep continental expertise with strong local insight to support the resilience, competitiveness and maturity of Africa’s insurance sectors.
This relocation positions Botswana as an increasingly preferred destination for multinational financial services headquarters and reinforces the country’s growing reputation as a secure, well-governed and investment-ready economy. For Continental Reinsurance, it marks the beginning of a new chapter; one rooted in confidence, partnership and a long-term commitment to shared prosperity.
