Caution Advised on Francistown–Nata Road

Motorists travelling on the A3 highway between Francistown and Nata are advised to drive cautiously as roadworks are still in progress.

The project, awarded to Okavango Africa Consortium, a citizen owned company, and forms part of efforts to improve national road infrastructure.

Travellers should anticipate diversions, slow traffic flow and uneven surfaces along the route. The A3 remains one of the busiest roads in the north, linking Francistown to key destinations including Nata, Maun, and Kasane.

Road to 60 Years

Built in 1965 to host Queen Elizabeth II’s visit, the Cresta President Hotel stands as one of Botswana’s historic hotels. It is the only Cresta property that has never changed its name, proudly carrying its identity through the decades.

Cresta President turns 59 this year, having shared nearly six decades of history alongside Botswana itself. The hotel famously hosted Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to mark the country’s Independence in 1966.

Guided by its tagline, “Where one smile starts another”. As it approaches its 60th anniversary next year, the hotel prepares to celebrate six decades of service smiles and comfort.

Natural Diamonds Shine Brighter Than Lab-Grown in Early US Holiday Sales

Early holiday jewelry sales in the United States are off to a strong start, with natural diamonds outperforming their lab-grown counterparts, according to Rapaport’s 2025 Early Holiday Trends and Sales survey.

The report shows that US jewelers recorded sales up to 20% higher than last year, with natural-diamond engagement rings leading the way. Round cuts topped the charts, followed by oval, marquise, and pear. The popularity of old-cut and cushion stones was also boosted by celebrity influence, notably Taylor Swift’s engagement ring from Travis Kelce.

Fashion jewelry buyers also leaned toward mined diamonds, with tennis bracelets and stud earrings proving most popular. More than half of jewelers surveyed said they expected overall holiday sales to surpass 2024.

The results come as welcome news for Botswana, the world’s leading producer of gem-quality diamonds, reaffirming the enduring value and consumer preference for natural stones at a time when the global market faces growing competition from lab-grown alternatives.
