THABENG PUBLISHES THREE BOOKS

Tsapelo Tsame Thabeng who comes from Maun from Thitoyamomole ward now has three published books. She is a novelist, a short story writer and a poet who has released books titled: From The Ashes which is a novel, Silent Voices which is a compilation of short stories & poems & Still Waters which is a story book and an anthology that she published with 5 other poets titled Lyrical wordsmiths which features Mmabatho Taboka Salang, Mpho Mpulubusi, Elaine Madisa, Monty Bullet Tausane and Edwin Motshwarakgole.

She considers herself as a poet who writes through emotion, experience & wishful thinking because it helps her to deal with reality & learn to move on with life as well as help other to move on if they feel stuck. Her inspiration to write she reveals it as an inspiration by how teenagers & their parents need to be like friends. She says she realised that in Botswana almost most of the families have very strict parents who make their kids feel like they are walking on egg shells, the story also depicts on bullying at school, su***de, teenage pregnancy, abuse & many other things that families face, be it single parent household or extended.

“I was once asked to write stories that could be turned into plays, we never got the chance to get there so i decided to publish the stories instead & add a few poems in there as a challenge to myself. This made me try something new and to discover how far I can go in writing. Like any other creative, i have encountered challenges of getting my book out there but i never let those challenges get me down, instead i allowed them to mould me & reshape my vision on how i can overcome them. I enjoy writing so much because there is no limit in my own stories, i can be creative as I want to, it allows me to put myself in different characters' shoes & know that somewhere out there is going through the same thing that i'm writing about. Being a writer or creative or artist doesn’t mean you are immune to feelings we just live those emotions through our characters & learn to harness them to our advantage.”

KGATLHISO REFILWE MATENGE

Kgatlhiso Matenge is a 21 year-old author from Kanye. Writing has always been her hobby from a young age.

She call it her ‘Escape World’ and says writing is like therapy because it allows her to express her feelings freely.

It all started with her writing poems on a scribbler at school and the positive feedback she got propelled her to write books.

Matenge has written three books the first being, ‘The Risen Star’ (Poetry Book), followed by The Secret Palace which was released this year.

She is currently working on her third book which is a thriller, crime and adventurous story. The book is expected to be released very soon.
