Duma Gideon Boko today in Mogoditshane officially launched Operation Pabalesego II, a joint initiative by The Botswana Police Service (BPS) and Botswana Defence Force, BDF- THEBE YA SECHABA to enhance national safety and security, with support from other law enforcement agencies.
Speaking at the launch, President Boko praised law enforcement officers for their dedication under challenging conditions and urged citizens to play their part in keeping families and communities safe.
βYour commitment is central to maintaining safety and order across Botswana,β he said.
He further condemned gender based violence, describing it as a serious threat to families and communities.
βI appeal to the public to promote respect, empathy, and non-violence in all relationships, particularly romantic ones,β he said.
Highlighting the broader security situation, Commissioner of Police Dinah Marathe said Botswanaβs overall crime remains manageable, with targeted offences decreasing by 5 per cent between January and September compared to the same period last year.
However, she noted worrying trends;
βMotor vehicle theft is up 15 per cent, defilement of children under 18 has risen 11 per cent, and murder has increased by 3 per cent largely linked to violent disputes involving sharp instruments,β she said.
Operation Pabalesego II aims to strengthen collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public, reinforcing community safety and the wellbeing of families across Botswana.
