President Mokgweetsi Masisi says that he has directed all Botswana Ambassadors deployed across the world to start responding and rebutting his predecessor Ian Khama’s attacks on Botswana in order to expose his behaviour and set the record straight.
In a leaked audio that was recorded at the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) National Council over the long holidays, Masisi stated that following the disparaging attacks of Botswana by the former President he met with all Ambassadors for an intervention.

President of the Alliance for Progressives (AP) Ndaba Gaolathe says that his party still believes in opposition unity as long as there is honesty and transparency in the talks.

Speaking at the AP conference in Francistown Ndaba said that he has no doubt that opposition unity can be achieved.

“As AP, we have not given up on opposition unity. As long as truth prevails during the process, we do not have a problem.

“We cannot govern a country through dishonesty and deceit. We are a party that believes in the principle of honesty,” Gaolathe said.

Gaolathe said that contrary to the narrative that AP is against opposition unity, they also have a vision of the opposition uniting but with honesty.

“You should not be misled or intimidated by some critics because you know the truth,” Gao lathe urged the party faithful.

Botswana Congress Party (BCP) President Dumelang Saleshando says that although he has been suspended from the party together with his Secretary General Goretetse Kekgonegile, they are yet to receive suspension letters.

Speaking at the BCP conference in Mahalapye, Saleshando said that they have been suspended without any letter that explains the development.

“Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) claims to have suspended me together with Kekgonegile but to date, we are yet to receive suspension letters,” Saleshando said.

Saleshando and Kekgonegile are suspended for three pending disciplinary hearing for allegedly bringing the UDC name into disrepute.

They allegedly committed this crime in the lead-up to the Bophirima ward by-election in Gaborone Bonnington South constituency.

Botswana Congress Party (BCP) conference resolved to expel the five suspended Members of Parliament.

Information coming from the ongoing conference is that 308 people voted to expel them while 245 wanted them to remain in the party and face disciplinary action.

The five MPs are David Tshere of Mahalapye West constituency, Dithapelo Keorapetse of Selibe-Phikwe West, MP for Okavango Kenny Kapinga, Palapye MP Onneetse Ramogapi as well as Dr Never Tshabang of Nkange.

The Botswana Congress Party Youth League (BCPYL) elective congress scheduled for Mahalapye today has pitted two lobby groups led by Presidential candidates Gobonamang Bonnie Tlhagwane and Ontlametse Letsholo.

Tlhagwane’s lobby comprises of June Tebogo June who is contesting for the Vice Presidency while Gift Seete is contesting for Secretary General position.

On the other hand, Letsholo has brought Gofaone Mabutho as his deputy while Brian Samoka vies for the Secretary General position.

MOELADILOTLHOKO GRANTED BAIL

The online publication Moeladilotlhoko News Boiler Director Tshepo Sethibe who was charged with a single count of publishing a statement of offence has been granted bail. The accused was arrested yesterday and detained.

According to court papers, on or about 8th July 2022 in Gaborone, the accused person published a false statement on Moeladilotlhoko publication.

According to court papers the accused published that the remains of the missing child bones that were recovered on the 6th July are going to be put together with the others that were found on 14th July and wilk be cremated after two weeks.

The accused further stated that there will be no funeral for the remains of missing Tlotso Karema because there was deceitfulness that is likely to cause fear or alarm to the public. The accused appeared before court this morning and was given bail. He will appear before court on 6th September this year.
The online publication Director has been instrumental in the search for the missing Karema.

Community Leaders Network of Southern Africa (CLN), has warned that a wave of legislative proposals through Europe to restrict legal imports of hunting trophies threatens the rights and livelihoods of rural communities in Africa.
They argue that a move where Belgium, Italy and the UK are all seeking to introduce new legislation that would ban hunters from bringing their hunting trophies home, would undermine the rights and livelihoods of rural communities that live with wildlife.

KEORAPETSE ANNOUNCED AS THE NEW LEADER OF OPPOSITION

The Deputy Speaker of National Assembly Pono Moatlhodi has announced the Member of Parliament (MP) for Selibe-Phikwe West Dithapelo Keorapetse as the new Leader of Opposition (LOO).
Keorapetse’s appointment followed the recent suspension of Dumelang Saleshando from the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). Saleshando has been holding the position.
According to Moatlhodi, Keorapetse was endorsed by eight (8) MPs of UDC parliamentary caucus on Sunday.

MINISTRIES OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND HEALTH TOP CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) and the Ministry responsible for Health are leading in recorded corruption allegations.

Speaking today in Francistown during the Anti-Corruption day, the Acting Director of the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) Tshepo Pilane said they received 77 corruption allegations since 2020 mostly recorded in the MLGRD followed by the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MoHW).
