As part of the continuous broader strategic vision to transform the church, Eloyi Christian Church today held a leadership training workshop in Mahalapye.

On his opening remarks, the church spiritual leader, His Holiness Archbishop Dr Sekai Jakoba, urged church leaders to uphold the principle of the church and also to stick to their roles and responsibilities

He urged leaders to pause and do self introspection on the spiritual journey to align with the government process and procedures.

He further said Self examination; Understand the church leadership roles, administrative process, is your personal responsibility."

TO APPRECIATE, ENCOURAGE AND INSPIRE THEM

The Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Hon. Motshegwa, met with staff of the North West District Council to express appreciation for their dedication and commitment, especially under limited resources. The engagement provided a valuable platform for employees to raise concerns, reflect on service challenges, and discuss ways to improve operations.

In his address, the Minister called for a renewed culture of high performance aimed at delivering quality public services and achieving citizen satisfaction. He emphasised the need to guard against corruption by promoting transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct across all levels of the Council. He further encouraged improved teamwork, highlighting collaboration as a key driver of productivity and positive change.

Minister Motshegwa stressed the importance of transforming organisational culture to one that is proactive, responsive, and service-oriented. He urged staff to uphold their mandate with professionalism and integrity, despite the constraints they face.

Employees thanked the Minister for engaging them directly and requested a review of working conditions to reflect the realities of their roles. The Deputy Council Secretary–Operations noted the positive impact of the meeting on staff morale and reaffirmed the Council's commitment to regular engagement with employees and Unions.

The Minister urged management to routinely visit departments, listen to staff, and address concerns promptly to avoid staff grievances that could have been avoided. He underscored the importance of staff morale and motivation as efforts towards triggering productivity. He said as a former Trade Union leader he understands workers challenges and therefore based on his leadership his ministry will be at the forefront of and be exemplary on respecting employees rights and welfare.

Dr. L*l Riek, Regional Director of the Africa Center for Disease Control (CDC) Southern Africa Regional Collaborating Centre (RCC), paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Ketlhalefile FC Motshegwa, Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs who recently got mandate of primary health care services. The visit emphasized Africa CDC’s commitment to strengthening partnerships across Southern Africa to enhance public health systems and foster regional collaboration.

The meeting focused on enhancing health security, improving disease surveillance, and strengthening response systems throughout the region. Botswana’s pivotal role in advancing Africa CDC’s mission was highlighted, particularly in tackling infectious diseases and building resilient health infrastructure.

Minister Motshegwa expressed gratitude for Africa CDC’s continued support and reaffirmed Botswana’s commitment to regional health cooperation. The dialogue emphasized the alignment of local government strategies with continental public health goals, particularly in preparing for emerging threats and supporting capacity building. Minister Motshegwa indicated that for genuine true and genuine independence, Africa needs to go beyond political independence and attain economic independence and institutional independence so that there are strong institutions for Africa to reduce over reliance and dependence on Western institutions.

Dr. Riek was accompanied by Dr. Karl Njuwa, Senior Technical Officer for the National Public Health Institute (NPHI); Dr. Joshua Obasanya, NPHI Consultant; Howard Nyika, NPHI Technical Officer; and Mr. Moagi Mbayi, representing the Botswana Public Health Institute (BPHI).

HH CALLS FOR PEACE, UNITY DURING FUNERAL OF FORMER PRESIDENT LUNGU

President of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema tonight addressed the nation and officially announced the death of former president Edgar Lungu on national broadcaster, ZNBC TV.

Hichilema warned against anarchy during the mourning of Lungu.

HH pleaded with all political parties including his ruling UPND to not be tempted into provocation as that could divide the nation during the difficult period of mourning former head of state.

In his national address, he said: "Our late Sixth President should be mourned in unity and peace."
