VEE MAMPEEZY TURNS SPOTLIGHT ON CHARITY WITH NOVEMBER 8 DONATION SHOW

Botswana’s music powerhouse, Vee Mampeezy, is turning the spotlight on charity with a massive show slated for 8 November at Notwane Grounds in Gaborone. He says the event was born out of his desire to give back and change mindsets. “I’ve always been a giver, but we realised we could not afford to give to many people alone. This event brings the nation together to help, with the hope that the spirit of giving continues even after the show,” said Vee. His team is working hand in hand with VDC, the Gaborone City Council, and the mayor to ensure help reaches the right people.

With a glittering line-up of artists, some performing as service exchange while others will be paid, the event promises to be both entertaining and impactful. Entry to the show will be through donations—ranging from basic foodstuffs like flour, sorghum, rice, pasta, and samp to toiletries, pampers, and even school uniforms. “This is about creating something bigger than a concert. It’s about putting food on someone’s table and making a difference in their life,” Vee urged.

ECONOMIST LOUIS SIBANDA CRITICISES TEBOGO’S FOCUS AFTER 200M FINAL LOSS

Renowned economist Louis Sibanda has delivered a stinging critique of Botswana’s sprint sensation Letsile Tebogo following his loss in the men’s 200m final at the Tokyo25 World Athletics Championships.

Sibanda argued that Tebogo’s off-track activities are distracting him from his core mission.

“Letsile should focus on his career a tswe hela mo Landcruiser Club. The club means well but its objectives are not aligned to his priorities. Camping for what? Gape banna bagolo ba teng are old enough to be his father. O bua eng le bone? I did say, he is maturing out of pace. He must stay focused,” Sibanda said.

He also pointed to the physical dominance of American sprinters as a key contrast.

“Did you see how the Americans have bulged up? Pure muscle. Letsile ene o bina Machikos,” he remarked, suggesting the young Motswana lags behind in conditioning.

However, local influencer Raymond Setlhomo Tshwanelang offered a different view, urging the public to give Tebogo room to grow.

“We forget that Letsile is still very young. One loss doesn’t define him. He has carried this country with pride and he will bounce back stronger. Instead of criticising him for socialising, we should be supporting his journey,” Tshwanelang said.

The contrasting views highlight the growing debate around Tebogo’s focus and readiness, as expectations remain high for the 21-year-old to dominate the global stage.

Excitement is building in the tourist capital as the Back 2 The Old Days carnival makes its grand return on September 30, 2025, promising a night of music, nostalgia, and non-stop entertainment at Kwa ga Ncinci (The Power Station).

The mega event, part of the Chobe Carnival & Kemateré Activation, kicks off at 12 noon and runs until 6am, blending old-school classics with modern hits to deliver an unforgettable Independence Eve celebration.

The star-studded lineup features some of Botswana’s most celebrated acts: Vee Mampeezy, Juu Matere, DJ The Guy, Makau, Nature BW, Machesa, Rokara, DJ Pippin, DJ Psco, Mdu the Fire Drummer & DJ Siya, along with The Choreographers.

Event hosts La-King and Mabarebare are expected to keep the crowd hyped throughout the marathon showcase.

Tickets are already on sale at Webtickets, Choppies, Spar, and Liquorama outlets. Advance tickets cost P150, while gate entry will be P200. Cooler boxes will be allowed free before 5pm and charged P50 thereafter, with food and refreshments available inside.

Organisers have assured fans of tight security and smooth logistics, urging early purchases to avoid last-minute rush.

“This carnival is about reliving the good old days while celebrating Botswana’s music journey. It’s going to be a night Maun will never forget,” one organiser told The People’s Daily News Online.

With just 10 days to go, Kwa ga Ncinci (The Power Station) is gearing up for one of the biggest entertainment spectacles of the year, set to attract partygoers from across the country.

Council Workers Face Delayed September Salaries

Palapye – Staff members at Palapye District Council will have to wait a little longer for their September salaries after management announced a delay in the scheduled pay date.

In a memorandum dated September 18, 2025, the Deputy Council Secretary (Operations), L.S. Botsie, informed all heads of department that salaries for the month of September would be postponed due to a technical fault in the payment system.

According to the memo, the original pay date of September 19 has been shifted to September 22.

“This communique serves to inform you that September 2025 salary pay day has been postponed from 19th September 2025 to 22nd September 2025. The postponement is due to a technical problem with our system. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused,” the notice read in part.

The development has left some employees concerned as the delay comes at a time when many workers typically plan their finances tightly around the pay date.

Council management, however, expressed regret over the inconvenience and assured staff that the issue would be resolved to avoid further disruptions.
