TWO BATSWANA MEN DIED IN NAMIBIA

The acting Officer Commanding,Kgotlaetsile Oodira of Chobe confirmed the fatal accident that occurred in Katima Mulilo.

The deceased have been identified as Pogiso Zimba from Maun and Mmile Semele from Oodi.Oodira revealed that one man has also been injured in the incident and still in hospital.

PANDAMATENGA MURDER ACCUSED GRANTED BAIL

A 35 year old man of Pandamatenga village Kemmonye Nthoiwa charged with single count of murder of his girlfriend Kemohilwe Karobe,was this week granted bail by the Kasane Senior Magistrate Kose Makobo.

It is alleged that following a misunderstanding with his lover,the accused person beaten his girlfriend with fists on the forehead and cheek,leaving her under critical conditions in Pandamatenga Newstance ward on the 10th May 2023.The victim was reportedly taken to Nyangabwe Referral Hospital under critical conditions.Nthoiwa was initially charged for unlawful wounding and his count amended after Karobe succumbed to the injuries.

Prosecutor Sub Inspector,Simasiku Pelotshwana informed the court that they had just received the post mortem report from the Forensic Lab which is being examined.He stated that at the moment they are awaiting for the committal of the case to the High Court for trial as such they could not oppose for the accused person to be released out on bail but on conditions.

Nthoiwa had told the court that he has children and properties to look after at his residence in Pandamatenga,therefore pleaded with the court to release him on bail out.

The accused was granted on conditions that he should pay an amount of P2000 and bring sureties who will bind themselves with P2000 each.He was also ordered to attend court on all set dates and should not be brought to court on any reasonable suspicion in which violence is an element.Nthoiwa was ordered to appear in court on the 21st August 2023.

15-YEAR OLD,CHOBE JSS PUPIL DEFILED

A 23-year old man of Kgaphamadi ward in Kasane appeared before Senior Magistrate Kose Makobo on Monday for defiling a 15-year old girl.

Particulars of the offence are that the accused person on or about the 6th September 2019 at or near Kgaphamadi location in Kasane unlawfully had carnal knowledge with a girl under the age of 18 years.The accused person was furnished with witnesses statements,summary of the case,report from the doctor and a copy of birth certificate of the victim.

When presenting the evidence to prove the defendant's guilt,Prosecutor Sub Inspector,Chashingwa Ndadi said that it was evident that the victim had told the accused that she was under age and was a student at Chobe Junior Secondary School."IT IS EVIDENT THAT THE ACCUSED HAD A SEXUAL ENCOUNTER WITH A GIRL UNDER THE AGE OF 18 YEARS AND THIS HAS BEEN PROVEN BY THE VICTIM AND THE INFORMATION ON HER BIRTH CERTIFICATE",he said.

Ndadi has stated that the medical officer and the victim had also given an evidence of sexual encounter.He further stated that the evidence from the investigating officer shows that the accused admitted to have had sexual in*******se with the teenager.He pleaded with the court to convict the accused for a single count of defilement as the evidence that was presented before court was sufficient.

Meanwhile,the accused person has told the court that he never had any sexual encounter with the victim and has pleaded with the court to give him some time to file his submission on why he should not be convicted.The accused person is expected to appear before court again on the 15th of June 2023 for judgement.

KAZUNGULA POLICE INVESTIGATING A FATAL ACCIDENT

Kazungula police are investigating a terrible incident in which a 34-year old man of Good Hope village was struck and killed by a car in Kazungula.

Confirming the news to this publication,Superintendent Phetogo Phillimon explained that the incident occurred today around 01:10am,when the victim was walking along the road with his girlfriend. Phillimon said the deceased was found lying on the ground by the police who upon arrival rushed him to Kasane Primary Hospital where he was certified dead.Supt further stated that the motorist had fled the scene immediately after the incident.He said that the police followed the suspect's car which they found parked at his residence in old Kazungula while he was nowhere to be found.

Superintendent Phillimon explained that the suspect was lately brought to Kazungula police station by his uncle and he is currently in police custody while investigations are still on-going.He revealed that the suspect has been identified as a 39-year old man from Dukwi Village.

Former Councillor for Borakalalo ward in Molepolole,Arafat Khan says he is a firm believer that the vulnerable,especially children deserve a little more care.Today i was pleased to be the coordinator of a handover ceremony,where Ackermans stores donated warm clothes to the disabled children of Anne Stine School to the tune of P41240.

Ackermans stores is a consistent donor to Anne Stine,i have in the past coordinator a similar event where they donated clothes to the students.

Children are the future leaders of tomorrow,this statement is inclusive of disabled children too.
