As the 2025 safari season comes to an end, I find myself filled with gratitude.
It has been a year of surprises, powerful moments in the wild, meaningful connections with guests, and many personal and professional highlights.

Every season reminds me that safari is never just about wildlife sightings — it’s about stories shared, lessons learned, laughter around the fire, and the privilege of calling the wilderness my office. From quiet sunrises in the Delta to unforgettable encounters that can’t be planned, 2025 delivered in ways I didn’t expect.

As I close this chapter, I’m already looking ahead with excitement. The future holds growth, deeper guiding, new projects, and an even stronger commitment to conservation, education, and authentic safari experiences.

Thank you to every guest, colleague, mentor, and friend who was part of this journey. The season may be over, but the story continues.

Onward to what’s next. 🌍🦁

After decades of lying dry, this remarkable channel reconnects the Okavango Delta and the Linyanti River, bringing life back to a wilderness long silent.

Gliding through its winding waters in a Mokoro, surrounded by lilies, reeds, and the calls of kingfishers and fish eagles, you feel the Delta come alive in every sense. We even stopped for a bush lunch by Bedao Lagoon — and I couldn’t resist a refreshing swim in this revived river system.

This was the longest Mokoro of my guiding career, and a rare opportunity to experience the Selinda Spillway at its peak. Truly a must-do for Maxa Island guests — exploration, immersion, and the Delta at its most magical. •

Started the morning tracking lions… ended up at a lion daycare!
We left Kanana Camp before sunrise, spotted fresh tracks, and followed them like detectives on a mission. Just as the sky lit up—boom—3 lionesses with 9 cubs popped out like they owned the place (which… they kind of do).

The cubs were pure chaos and cuteness, wrestling, pouncing, and testing mom’s patience like pros. Another wild morning in the bush!

Woke up to one of those misty mornings in the Kanana floodplains—the kind that stops you in your tracks. That soft blanket of fog over the water isn’t just pretty… it means something. It’s a sign the floodwaters are here, the Delta is alive, and the day is about to unfold in the most magical way.

I watched a lone lechwe move through the mist, birds calling in the distance, and just stood there for a moment—quiet, grateful. These are the mornings that remind me how lucky I am to call this place my office.

Back in the Delta — and Kanana is Calling

I flew out of Maun this morning and landed at the newly rebuilt Kanana Camp, tucked deep within the Xudum River system — and I’m honestly blown away.

The camp has been completely reimagined, yet it still holds that unmistakable Kanana soul. The main area is a showstopper — beautifully open, full of natural textures, and built to bring the outside in. There’s a live kitchen where you can watch the chefs in action, and yes… there’s even a bush pizza oven serving up fresh slices with a view!

The new guest tents are elegant, spacious, and perfectly placed to overlook the seasonal floodplains, where lechwe, elephants, and herons come and go. And the new swimming pool — wow. Set right on the edge of the floodplain, it’s the perfect spot to cool off and take in the wilderness.

In just a few days, I’ll be leading a private guided safari here — and I honestly can’t wait to share this place. Kanana has always had a special kind of magic… and now, it’s shining brighter than ever.

Love, War, and Exhaustion: Lion Mating in the Okavango Delta

Lion mating isn’t just about passion—it’s a battle! After each round, the lioness often lashes out at the male, swiping and growling, while he stumbles away, exhausted but ready for more.

With up to 100 mating sessions in two days, the once-mighty king is soon left bruised, battered, and utterly drained, while the relentless queen decides when the game is over.

Nature at its rawest—have you ever witnessed this?

A fly-in safari aboard a Cessna Grand Caravan offers a unique aerial adventure over Botswana’s wild landscapes. As you soar over the Okavango Delta, you’ll see winding channels, lush islands, and wildlife like elephants, hippos, and buffalo below. Landing at a remote bush airstrip, you’re instantly immersed in the wilderness. In the Kalahari, the scene shifts to golden dunes and vast horizons, where black-maned lions and oryx roam. Whether flying into the delta or the desert, the experience offers a breathtaking, unforgettable view of Botswana’s untouched ecosystems.

Under a sky heavy with dark clouds and whispered promises of rain, I found myself immersed in a moment that felt like nature’s own fairytale. The air was cool and fragrant with the earthy scent of damp soil, and somewhere in the distance, a low rumble hinted at the coming storm.

There, in the midst of this quiet drama, stood a majestic elephant bull. Calm and composed, he moved slowly among the lush greenery, his every step deliberate and serene. As he fed, the first gentle drops began to mingle with his weathered skin, as if nature itself was paying homage to his enduring grace. In that timeless moment, the world around me fell silent, and I felt an overwhelming sense of wonder and connection to the wild.

It was a scene that reminded me: sometimes, the quietest moments hold the most profound stories.

The Magic of a Midday Break on Safari

Ever wondered why safaris have a midday break? It’s not just about slowing down—it’s about making the most of your adventure!

By noon, the African sun is at its peak, and just like lions lounging under a shady tree, we take a pause. Wildlife activity slows as animals seek shelter, making this the perfect time to relax, enjoy a delicious lunch, take a dip in the pool, or simply soak in the beauty of the bush.

For guides, this break is key to staying sharp and energized, ensuring the afternoon game drive is just as exciting as the morning. And let’s be honest—there’s something special about an afternoon safari after a refreshing siesta!

Rest, recharge, and get ready for more incredible moments in the wild.
