LAUNCH OF SCHOOL SPORTS TOMORROW

President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko will tomorrow launch the School Sport and Arts at the Lobatse Stadium. The launch is a collaborative effort by the three ministries: Child Welfare and Basic Education, Sports and Arts, and Local Government and Traditional Affairs.

Teacher trade Unions, namely the Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) and the Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU), have been engaging with the government to have school sports return.

PARLIAMENT REJECTED A MOTION CALLING FOR THE 26-DAY MODEL FOR TEACHERS

The Parliament of Botswana have rejected a motion calling for the adoption of a 26-month pay model for teachers in Botswana Public Schools, as a form of recognition for the peculiarities of their work, in shaping the minds of the next generation, as well as fostering a positive learning environment for learners.

Member of Parliament for Maun West, Honourable Cater Hikuama, brought the motion. 20 Members of Parliament rejected the motion with only 10 in support and 2 abstaining.

The teachers' trade unions, the Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) and the Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU), have been calling for the government to adopt a 26-month pay model.

PUBLIC SERVICE SALARY NEGOTIATIONS ADJOURNED

Teachers and public servants have told Friday evening that, the ongoing Salary Negotiations have been adjourned for three days.

According to a joint statement from the unions and the employer, the negotiations will resume on the 17th June 2025, with expectations that the Unions would have consulted their members.
