Over 90 lbs of Cannabis Seized Near Corozal Free Zone
A police patrol along the perimeter of the Corozal Commercial Free Zone led to the discovery of nearly 92 lbs of suspected cannabis yesterday afternoon.
According to police, at approximately 4:10 p.m. on June 5, officers attached to the Northern Border Police Formation were conducting patrols along the outer perimeter fence of the Free Zone when they observed three men walking near the fence line. Each of the men was reportedly carrying a large black plastic bag.
Upon noticing the police presence, the men allegedly fled towards a nearby river area, prompting officers to pursue them. The suspects managed to evade capture, but police conducted a search of the area and recovered four large plastic bags.
The bags were found to contain a total of 41.96 kilograms of suspected cannabis. The illicit substance was subsequently transported to the Corozal Police Station, where it was processed and labeled as an exhibit.
No arrests have been made in connection with the seizure, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
