The owner of Helen Store in Belmopan was held at gunpoint and robbed this morning. Around 11:30, two masked men entered the establishment on St Martinโ€™s Avenue in the Capital. One of the men, who was armed with a firearm, rushed the owner from behind the counter and held a gun to her head, while the other took cash from the register. The pair then made off on foot in the direction of Quickstop Personal Finance Center with the cash, which is said to amount to around $300.

Heat was radiating both on and off the field today at the FFB stadium in Belmopan, where more than 120 students from 26 schools across Cayo and Belize City gathered for the Concacaf Bigger Game Academy Festival. The two-day event, which started on September 15, gave students a platform to put their football skills into practice, while also helping them to build core values such as teamwork, confidence, and discipline. The festival marked the culmination of 10 weeks of football sessions conducted by teachers and coaches, who worked with groups of approximately 20 to 25 students at their respective schools. For coach Malcom Garbutt, the two-day festival was an impactful experience, as he was given the chance to help nurture a love for football among young players.

Today, in recognition of the countryโ€™s upcoming 45th birthday, the National Assembly building proudly unveiled two busts of the Rt. Hon. George Cadle Price as a part of the public art exhibition: The Two Pillars of Belize Independence. The busts were created by renowned Belizean artist and sculptor, Steven Okeke, and were crafted from yellow silicone bronze, which is said to have a lifespan of over 4,000 years. The busts commemorate the life, leadership, and enduring contribution of the Father of the Nation to Belizeโ€™s Independence. According to Okeke, he created the busts four years ago, and finally felt like it was time to unveil them to the public. The busts will be on display at the National Assembly Building until the 30th of September.

The Leader of the Opposition has responded to the Prime Ministerโ€™s State of the Nation Address, delivered yesterday. In his address, Prime Minister John Briceรฑo highlighted a number of achievements by the Peopleโ€™s United Party administration over the past year, while also acknowledging some of the challenges currently facing the country. Despite those challenges, the Prime Minister maintained that, overall, Belize remains in a good state. But shortly after the address, Opposition Leader Tracy Panton released a roughly ten-minute video response, offering her assessment of the Prime Ministerโ€™s presentation, challenging several of the claims made in the address. Among the issues raised was the state of the economy. While the Prime Minister pointed to economic growth and what he described as a strong performance, Panton argued that those figures do not reflect the reality being experienced by many Belizeans, particularly as households continue to grapple with the rising cost of living.
