The Corozal Central Park Rehabilitation Committee has announced that corrective work is underway on parts of the Canary Wharf structure after an independent engineer identified structural concerns, including deviations from the original design and construction-quality issues.

The affected elements will be demolished and reconstructed under professional supervision.

The Committee says the completed walkway and other finished works were inspected separately and are considered to be in good condition.

Meanwhile, work continues on other parts of the project, including the clock tower, new clock, lighting, playgrounds, landscaping, and relocation of the existing fountain.

The Committee thanked Corozal residents for their patience and said further updates will follow as construction progresses.

CTC COMMENCES RESTORATION OF "ROUNDHOUSE"

The Corozal Town Council has commenced the much-needed rehabilitation of “Roundhouse”, with the objective of making the popularly-used structure, situated along the coast, more resilient and long-lasting.

The Council acted upon concerns raised by members of the public, including videos posted of the structure showing deterioration of its metal columns and beams. The metal structure has been severely affected by its proximity to the coast.

The Council has contracted Botes & Associates to carry out the work, for a total cost $58,042.00.

The expected work includes:
1. Rehabilitation of damaged roofing system
2. Replacement of light fixtures
3. Rehabilitation of electrical panel box
4. Repainting of metal structure
5. Rehabilitation of damaged metal columns
6. Upgrading columns to composite metal and concrete columns

By upgrading the columns to concrete, the structure will become more resilient.

The rehabilitation work is expected to be completed by or before September 18th 2026.
