🌳🚜 Corozal Sustainable Future Initiative (CSFI) - 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐈𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 🚜🌳

Our forests are one of Belize's greatest treasures, providing habitat for countless wildlife species, protecting our water sources, and supporting the health of our environment. Unfortunately, illegal logging continues to threaten these precious ecosystems.

Last week, the CSFI Enforcement Team discovered signs of illegal logging during a routine patrol in the North Eastern Biological Corridor (NEBC). The team found freshly cut trees, logs prepared for removal, and an unauthorized access trail leading into the protected area.

As part of the operation, a tractor and chainsaw believed to have been used in the illegal activity were confiscated, and evidence was documented to support the ongoing investigation. Although the team encountered attempts to interfere with the operation, they remained committed and successfully carried out their duties.
Illegal logging doesn't just remove trees; it destroys wildlife habitat, fragments forests, and impacts the natural resources that future generations depend on.

This successful operation is another example of the strong collaboration between CSFI and the Belize Forest Department to protect Belize's protected areas and ensure that our forests remain healthy and thriving.

We encourage everyone to play their part in protecting our natural heritage. If you witness illegal activities near protected areas, report them to the relevant authorities. Together, we can help preserve Belize's forests for generations to come.

***POLICE DEPARTMENT SEXUAL CONSENT WORKSHOP***

Sexual Consent Workshop: Building Respect Through Understanding

The Belize Police Department hosted a total of five (5) sessions of Sexual Consent Workshop aimed at strengthening participants’ understanding of consent, personal boundaries, respectful communication, and professional conduct. The interactive session provided valuable knowledge that promotes safer workplaces, healthier relationships, and stronger community engagement.
The workshop was facilitated by Michelle Major, who holds a Master’s degree in Psychology and Human Services, with concentrations in Addictions and Family Systems. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Anthropology.

Throughout the workshop, participants explored key topics including:
* What constitutes consent.
* When consent can and cannot be given.
* Who can and cannot give consent.
* Forced or coerced consent.
* What consent is not.
* When consent is required.
* Informed consent.
* Ongoing consent and the right to withdraw consent at any time.
* Affirmative consent.
* The three pillars of consent: Communication, Respect, and Consent.
* Defining, recognizing, and respecting personal boundaries.
* Accepting and respecting the autonomy of others.
* Why obtaining consent is essential.
* Understanding that “No Means No.”
* Consent in the workplace.
* Consent in policing.
* Consent in technology and social media.

The session also emphasized that consent must be communicated clearly, freely, and be fully understood by everyone involved. Participants discussed the various forms of communication through which consent may be expressed, including:
* Verbal communication.
* Non-verbal communication.
* Written communication.

The workshop challenged participants to reflect on everyday situations by asking: “What have you given consent for, and was that consent clearly communicated and understood?”

The Belize Police Department remains committed to promoting professionalism, mutual respect, and creating a culture where every individual’s rights, dignity, and autonomy are respected. Through education and continuous training, we continue building a safer workplace and a safer Belize for all.

***A DAY ON OUR COROZAL BAY WITH COROZAL TEAMS FROM SACD & TLSP🌊

What a weekend. 🌿

On this Saturday, July 4th, TLSP had the honor of joining forces with the Sarteneja Alliance for Conservation and Development - Belize (SACD) for a joint patrol in the Consejo area. It was our first venture into this territory, and the experience gave us valuable insight into the important work of monitoring and safeguarding our coastal areas.

The patrol took us along Corozal Bay, where we made several stops to observe developments taking place along the shoreline. Our purpose was clear: to verify that activities were being conducted with the proper permits and in compliance with environmental regulations. It is a reminder that while development is a reality, it must be done responsibly and within the law.

Along the way, nature gifted us an unforgettable moment: spotting a sea turtle in its natural habitat and an amazing one-of-a-kind wonder of Belize, the stromatolites. Seeing such life thrive in these waters is a powerful reminder of what is at stake and why these patrols matter.

We are deeply grateful to the rangers Ms. Juleidy Muños and Mr. Rodiel Blanco, as well as Mrs. Constance Bailey and our local guide and is little companion, for their incredible hospitality and for sharing their knowledge with us. Their dedication is the true engine of conservation in Belize.

These collaborations show us that the future of our natural resources is built through strong alliances. Together, our impact is stronger.
