WOMAN ASSAULTED BY PARTNER IN DISPUTE OVER SOFT DRINK

Police are investigating a domestic incident in San Jose Village, Orange Walk District, after a 23-year-old woman reported being assaulted by her common-law partner during an argument at their home.

The altercation occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2025. According to the woman, the dispute began when she entered the bedroom and asked her partner—a 23-year-old construction worker—about an unfinished soft drink left on the bedside table. The simple question allegedly triggered an aggressive reaction, causing him to raise his voice and become increasingly hostile.

In an attempt to calm the situation, she sat on a plastic chair in the corner of the room. However, the argument escalated, and when she stood up, her partner reportedly struck her in the right ear and cheek, causing her to fall to the ground.

Police have since taken her statement and issued a medico-legal form. A doctor later certified her injuries as “harm.” The accused man was subsequently detained as investigations continue.

Chan Pine Ridge Crowned National Primary School Volleyball Champions

Chan Pine Ridge Government School has captured the title of National Primary School Volleyball Champions, emerging undefeated after facing a lineup of strong and talented teams from across the country.

In the final match, played on Friday, November 21st, Chan Pine Ridge went up against Holy Redeemer School in an exciting showdown. Demonstrating skill, teamwork, and determination, the Orange Walk champions secured the victory and claimed 1st place at the Nationals.

The tournament featured impressive performances from all participating schools, but Chan Pine Ridge stood out as the top-performing team, bringing pride and joy to their district.

Supporters, parents, and community members turned out in full force, cheering on the athletes throughout the competition. The school expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who came out to show their support, noting that the encouragement truly made a difference.

PACT receives GCF Approval to Develop Major Climate Resilience Project for Belize’s National Protected Areas System

Belmopan, Belize, November 21, 2025 — The Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) is pleased to announce that the Green Climate Fund (GCF) has approved a Project Preparation Facility (PPF) Service to support the development of the full proposal for the climate project, "Strengthening the Belize National Protected Areas System (BNPAS) to Provide Resilience and Reduce Vulnerability of Communities Against Climate Change."

The announcement was made on the sidelines of COP30 in Belem, Brazil, on November 19, 2025. Ms. Milagro Matus, Chair of PACT's Board of Directors, accompanied by Mr. Abil Castañeda, PACT's Executive Director, and Mr. Leroy Martinez, Acting Director of the Climate Finance Unit within the Ministry of Economic Transformation, joined Ms. Kristin Lang, GCF Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, for a ceremonial signing of the PPF.

The proposed project aims to strengthen the resilience and management of Belize's National Protected Areas System, which plays a vital role in supporting biodiversity conservation, tourism, water security, and sustainable rural livelihoods. Through this PPF Service, PACT, in its role as Direct Access Entity to the GCF, will lead the preparation of a comprehensive full funding proposal for the project, including detailed technical, environmental, financial, and social assessments required by the Fund, in collaboration with the co-executing entities, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Solid Waste Management, and the Association of Protected Areas Management Organizations (APAMO). Once fully developed and funded, the project will enhance ecosystem integrity, build resilience across buffer communities, and reduce climate-related risks across protected and conserved landscapes.

This approval marks a significant milestone in Belize's continued efforts to advance transformative climate action and lead the integration of conservation priorities with climate finance.

"This achievement reflects PACT's growing capacity as Belize's national accredited entity to international climate finance mechanisms," said Mr. Abil Castañeda, PACT's Executive Director. "It demonstrates confidence in Belize's ability to lead nature-based climate solutions that strengthen both ecosystems and community resilience."

With its dual accreditation to the GCF and Adaptation Fund, PACT continues to advance the country's leadership in direct access to climate finance. The approval of this PPF is a testament to the GCF's confidence in PACT's fiduciary and technical capabilities, reinforces national ownership of climate investments, and contributes to a growing pipeline of strategic climate resilience projects for Belize.

Good morning. Here's your weather update for Monday, November 24th.

A light, moist, and somewhat unstable airflow prevails across the region, bringing scattered shower activity to some areas.

Today we're looking at sunny skies with cloudy intervals. Tonight will bring partly cloudy skies becoming cloudy at times. A few showers and possible isolated thunderstorms will develop mainly along the central and northern areas of the country.

For temperatures today, we're experiencing pleasant conditions. Coastal areas will see a high of 86 degrees and a low of 76 degrees. Inland regions will reach 88 degrees with a low of 70 degrees. The hill country will be comfortable with a high of 78 degrees and a low of 67 degrees.

Marine conditions show east to northeast winds at 5 to 15 knots, choppy sea conditions, and wave heights of 3 to 5 feet. Boaters should continue to exercise caution in these conditions.

From the tropics, conditions remain quiet. The North Atlantic Basin is expected to remain quiet for the next several days, and therefore, no tropical cyclone is expected to affect Belize and her coastal waters.

Looking ahead to Tuesday and Tuesday night, expect a few coastal showers and possible isolated thunderstorms to develop mainly over central and northern areas.
