Helping from the heart means giving purely out of love and empathy, completely detached from the desire for applause or public recognition.

When we serve others in secret, our focus stays entirely on the person in need rather than on building our own reputation. This quiet, selfless approach closely mirrors the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 6:3–4, which instructs: "But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret.

Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." True generosity doesn't need a stage; it finds its fulfillment simply in knowing it made someone else's burden a little lighter.

A quotation attributed to the Dalai Lama says: “do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace.” It is a profound statement that, if put into practice, would make the world we live in a much better place. Many times we surrender our inner peace to the whims of others whose sole purpose is to be an aggravation to the soul. I once heard it said to "stop renting space in your head to people." We cannot control what other people say about us, but we have total control over how we let it affect us. Sometimes when we say nothing at all, we say it all. Somethings are not worth getting into a back and forth about; or even arguing about.

Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us: "do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." But the qualifying statement in the lead up to those verses puts it all into context when Philippians 4:4-5 says:" rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near."

Brothers and sisters, inhale the Saturday morning's quiet, let it settle in your bones. Exhale judgment, tension, the weight of discord. Breathe in kindness, weave it into your words, your actions, your very being. Like ripples on a still pond, let your peace spread outward, touching hearts, mending broken shores. Harmony isn't a destination, but a dance, a gentle sway with the rhythm of life. Embrace differences, find beauty in the melody of many voices. In the quiet moments, and the vibrant chaos, choose peace. Choose harmony. Choose to be the ripple that calms the storm.

Have a blessed and productive Saturday everyone. God is good.

With the permission of his widow, I am tasked with announcing the peaceful transition of Gayle Robert Scafe at dawn today. His spirit left for the eternal landscape, leaving with us his family, friends and associates, a lifetime of memories to cherish forevermore.

Today, I am surrounded by the love of the Father, supported by the outstretched arms of our Lord Jesus Christ and comfort by the gift of the Holy Spirt. At the start of a new year, Arnold Bennett's opinion rings true this morning more than ever when he said: “the chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.” The dawn of this new day presented a crack in the world, sunlight spills through. Dusty dreams stir, cobwebs shake loose. Fear whispers, "What if?", hope shouts, "What could be?" Tentative steps on unfamiliar ground, heart a hummingbird in hand. The past, a whispered echo, the future, a canvas unfurled. Breathe deep, let go, step bold. Every ending seeds a beginning, every dawn a blank page. This moment, yours to paint, your story to write. New beginnings, brushstrokes on eternity. As you go about your daily activities today take the words of Ezekiel 11:19 with you: "I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh." A happy New Year everyone. Have a blessed and productive Monday.

Sometimes the battles we fight in life come close to overtaking us. But just in the nick of time, things change. That's because my God is an on-time God. And He is always right on schedule. Isaiah 60:1 says: "arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee."

As 2023 winds down and we anticipate the start of a new year we must continue the transformation that those of us who have chosen to follow Jesus have started. The old year is ending and while the new year approaches, some of the same challenges believers faced in the last twelve months are going to be with us into 2024. But our faith must never waver. Because God will always be by our side. We continue to build upon the rock that the builders rejected. Psalm 118:22-23 tells us" “the stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the LORD had done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.”

Oh and before I forget, let us always be ever mindful that no matter how many times a snake sheds its skin, it will always be a snake. Keep that in mind as we head into the new year. Have a blessed and enjoyable Saturday.

They say that silence is golden. And nowhere is that more aptly relevant than in the face of insults and curses from people who try to bring you down. You wield ultimate power when you stay silent when the enemy attacks. Notice how those who are seeking to destroy you get angry, upset and humiliated when you remain silent despite their best efforts? Exodus 14:14 teaches us that "the Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” When we try to "set" people straight or follow up on "drama" that people create, we give wings and energy to the enemy's plans. God has a purpose for us all and sometimes when we are fully engaged in fulfilling our divine assignment, the enemy throws a wrench into the mix. How we react to it ultimately determines whether the weapons formed against us will prosper or not. Brothers and sisters, as we go about our daily activities today, let us be mindful that maturity is not just a state of physical dexterity. Grey hairs do not mean maturity. I have learned that maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong, but you just breathe, walk away and let life take care of them. And many times, God gifts you the opportunity to watch the enemy's destruction and smile. A blessed Friday everyone.

When you serve in Christian ministry, sometimes the monotony can be overwhelming. When you're charged with pastoral care, the burden is often multipled. That is why today it was refreshing when, in the midst of an outreach at the Barranco Evangelical Church, the young man shown in the picture, ignoring all the noise around, walked up the his pastor and said "I want to pray for you." He proceesed to lay hands on his pastor, and prayed for her. When he was finished, the boy proceeded to get his toys and joined other children and young people at play outside while the adults carried on inside. It reminds me of Psalm 8:2 in the English Standard Version which declares: "out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger." To God be the glory, now and forevermore, Amen.

We need to be more aware of our surroundings in these evil days as the countdown to eternity approaches the eleventh hour. Not everyone who smiles with you is a friend. Not every meal shared is without an ulterior motive. And not every 'thank you' comes from a heart of love. Jeremiah 20:13 is an approprite reminder this holiday season, that we are to "sing to the LORD! Give praise to the LORD! He rescues the life of the needy from the hands of the wicked." This reminds me of a chorus we sing in The Salvation Army, with the lyrics: "I will bless thee Oh Lord. With a heart of thanksgiving, I will bless thee Oh Lord. With my hands lifted up, and my mouth filled with praise. I will bless Thee oh Lord." Are you blessing the Lord in what you say and do? Brothers and sisters, as we go about our daily lives, we need to pay closer attention to what people invite you to and what they leave you out of. Words have meaning; but actions speak louder than the spoken words. Have a blessed Tuesday everyone.

Sometimes all that a person wants to hear is: "thank you." We often go about our busy lives not realizing that the simple things in life can make a world of difference for someone. And it is not always about money, although dollars and cents do help. Showing appreciation is sometimes worth much more than silver or gold. It does the heart good. It was Alfred Painter who said: “saying thank you is more than good manners; it is good spirituality.” The Bible encourages us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 to "be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." As we go about our daily activities today, let us practice to say "thank you" and "I appreciate you." These words, as Mark Twain said, go a long, long way in life. “Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” —Mark Twain. A blessed Friday everyone.

Practice makes perfect; but our mindset can make the best laid practice nothing but a total waste of time. You see, our attitude dictates our altitude in life. Remember that in today's world, "people may hear your words, but they feel your attitude." (John C. Maxwell) If you can confidently boast that it doesn't take much for you to go from 0 to 90 in terms of getting angry, that should be your first indication of a disaster waiting to happen. When we get angry, our mouth tends to move at twice the speed at which our brain can process things. And that is never a good place to be. Brothers and sisters, as we go about our daily activities today, may we be armed with the words of Romans 15:5, which tells us: "may the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had," Amen. In other words, as Brian Tracy puts it: "you cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you." A blessed Thursday everyone.
