IDB Special Mission visits Corozal Town; Mayor Rigo Vellos signs MOU to move Sustainable and Inclusive Urban Project forward
Corozal Town is set to benefit from an Urban Development Project funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and supported by the Government of Belize aimed at significantly upgrading key locations along the Bay.
This morning, Mayor Rigo Vellos signed the Memorandum of Understanding which formalised the Council's lead role in the project along with the Ministry of Local Government and Ministry of Finance.
The project seeks to enhance key public areas, including the Mother’s Park, Rotary/Children’s Park, the Municipal Pier, and Liberty Court among others. Furthermore, a boardwalk structure will be constructed along a section of the Bay to achieve coastal protection with nature-based solutions.
Attending the event were Mayor Rigo Vellos, Deputy Mayor Rodolfo Narvaez, Councillor Otoniel Riveroll, and Town Administrator Alberto Vellos for the Council; and, Ministry of Finance Central Executing Unit reps Ms. Kathya Castaneda (Project Manager), Dr. Pedro Villegas (Environmental Specialist) and Mr. Isani Enriquez (Project Engineer); as well as, IDB consultants Gabriel Hernandez, Celine Neal and Janette Archer-Headley.
