New saddle

And man it didn’t disappoint, legs was having terrible pinching with the other saddle and he had body work done. Lo and behold the body work said he was really tight through the wither, and lower neck. Second day riding in this saddle and it’s insane how major of an improvement it’s caused. He’s traveling around with his head down and so so much more relaxed.

I had to do a massive deep dive into saddle fitting and boy did I learn lots! Next post will be about saddle fitting. If there’s any advice I can tell you listen to your horse! And buy the good saddle they aren’t cheap but well worth it.

I’m a mom of three who rediscovered a love for horses after recovering from a knee surgery and navigating the busy years of raising young kids. I live on a farm where i breed my ranch-pony and recently took on an exciting step by purchasing my first high-end weanling, who will be headed to training next year. My journey into the world of cutting and cowhorse has been challenging and rewarding, there’s so much to learn, and it can feeling overwhelming at times. That’s why I’m passionate about creating a welcoming space for others who are new to the sport. Whether you are just getting started or looking to dive deeper, I believe there is room for everyone in this incredible community.

LOOKINSTYLISH GERRY

2020 Registered Gelding | 15hh

Gerry is the real deal — a well-built 2020 registered gelding standing 15hh with excellent feet, correct conformation, and the kind of disposition everyone hopes for. Sired by Caught Me Lookin (Smart Little Baggins) and out of a Stylish Rey (Dual Rey) mare, he’s bred to be cowy, smart, and athletic.

Wherever he goes, Gerry is the barn favourite. His goofy, loving personality makes him a joy to be around and a pleasure to work with. Add to that his natural talent and broad experience, and you have a well-rounded, well-traveled horse with a big future.

Gerry has done it all — shown in NRCHA cowhorse events across BC and Alberta, camped overnight, swims in lakes, moved cattle, roped the dummy, and just had fun. He’s even gone English and pulls it off with style, though he definitely prefers western lifestyle.

He’s successfully competed in Ranch Versatility with championships and top placings in ranch rail, trail, and pattern classes. He’s very safe, easygoing, and uncomplicated to ride. While he can be a bit more of a push ride until you get to know him, he lights up on cattle and turns into a powerhouse — lead changes, spins, a huge stop, circles, side pass — it’s all there.

Gerry is well suited to a variety of riders. He’s not what I’d call a “dead broke” beginner’s horse yet, but I have no doubt he’ll be perfect for a youth or novice with time. Right now, he’d be ideal for an eager experienced youth looking for an all-around partner, or an adult amateur wanting a safe, capable, and competitive ride.

He’d make a competitive Non-Pro Boxing or Box Drive NRCHA horse, with one more Derby year left in the Non-Pro Boxing. He’s been started in the bridle and is transitioning beautifully. He’s also done well in Ranch Cutting and could easily head into high school rodeo, ranch work, or roping. The possibilities are endless.
