A scene from "Katiktaak and Kaviksaak" (red and white), by eelonqa K harris.
The bear befriends the family, largely due to the unafraid approach of the normally quite shy Kaviksaak, who offers him food and shelter.
In the end it turns out that this bear is not a mere animal. He is the spirit of the north, transformed.
This book is available in print in six languages (four of which are Indigenous) at TaleFeather.ca, and in the mainstream languages, and audiobook format at Amazon.
The Inuktitut translator Rhoda Kayakjuak generously provided some original throat singing recordings for this story, which can be heard in the background of this beautiful audio play.
