It's Friday, it's Brodsky with the cat. I'm still getting used to him in English, can i just say he is not as good as in Russian! Despite people trying, I think its blasphemy to translate poems, we can only learn million languages so we can read them as they were born.

Here's a girl from a dangerous town
She crops her dark hair short
so that less of her has to frown
when someone gets hurt.

She folds her memories like a parachute.
Dropped, she collects the peat
and cooks her veggies at home: they shoot
here where they eat.

Ah, there's more sky in these parts than, say,
ground. Hence her voice's pitch,
and her stare stains your retina like a gray
bulb when you switch

hemispheres, and her knee-length quilt
skirt's cut to catch the squall,
I dream of her either loved or killed
because the town's too small

It's Friday morning and because I can post anything here. Today feels like Brodsky morning. Perhaps we make it into Friday tradition.

Life in the scattered light

The roar of zinc urns, tilting impulse
of wind. Cars rolling on cobblestone
bridge, like water for fish
Hudson. barely audible
vote, owned by Muse,
sounding in the twilight like nobody, but
Exactly like singing wintered flies,
whispering words, of no importance.

promiscuity letters. disheveled cabbage
the clouds. Light, punished for being rude
The touch. whose art
not tender, but short-sightedness.
Life in the scattered light! and by week
nothing in the mouth, except bull and beer.
In winter, only the eye retains greens,
burning mirror naked, like nettles.

Brother, in this light you do not need anything!
Neither justice, no girlfriend.
The outlines of things, how so gr***de,
explode, falling into the hands.
And limbs numb. it
that's why, that the scattered light cold
It demonstrates the quality of the silhouette
special, if the subject is not young.

Sing, whether, a song about, that is not far off?
the similarity of the whole with half
the feeling of, if you were sunbathing
conversely: the full moon, with Fink.
but no one, vein cheated on shee,
do not pick up your tune. no connoisseur,
no normal public: louder than
couplet, the disembodied artist.

Several spine-tingling tales are legendary accounts of native spirits who still inhabit the land.

In Edmonton, two former firehalls are widely reputed to be haunted; the McKay Avenue School is said to have at least half a dozen spirits; and employees of radio station CKUA have experienced a ghostly presence. "Alberta’s Most Haunted Place" is probably the Deane House and Tea Room at Fort Calgary, where a number of different ghosts are taken for granted by the staff.

This eerie collection of supernatural tales includes, among others, the story of the Medicine Hat ghost train; the strange phenomena in a rural "castle" that cannot drive its owner away; the hauntings of the Banff Springs Hotel; the ghostly arsonist in a photograph at Chateau Lake Louise; evil ghosts of the Alberta Badlands; the beautiful lady in white who haunts Prince House in Heritage Park; the Canmore Opera House spirits; and the ghostly bookworm.

If I can name a hobby or profession that stuck with me through the years! Well, I'm a professional student! When I start describing my finished and unfinished degrees people don't believe me. One of the unfinished ones is medicine. ( It includes med school and nursing) doctor is who I wanted to be since I can remember myself. Perhaps I would have been good one, but not in this lifetime. Desire to be a doctor went away, but love for medical text books stayed. There is something so different about them. This is a text book I found from 1916. Strange time in the world history, I wonder what happened to the student that was holding it. Was he in the next war, that was coming at him like a steamroller, as he oblivious was holding this book. If only this pages can talk.

For me books are more than just information devices, pretty sentences lined up in orderly structure, words of wisdom and portal to different dimensions. They are true comfort and a slice of my childhood. As a kid I used to fall asleep staring at the book spines, reading the names and titles over and over, while slowly dowsing off to sleep. Even now I close my eyes and see those books. Those dusty covers still make me feel safe and at home.
