I was honored to do a show for BigE about the upcoming Edmonton Blues Festival 👌🍻 I got to chat with festival organizer Cam Hayden & talk about the festival which kicks off Friday, August 19th in the incomparable Hawrelak Amphitheater. Cam chats about his affiliation with the blues, this festival, and being a part of the Edmonton radio scene for well over 40 years now. Cam Hayden from CKUA with his Blues show Friday Night Blues Party (in its 31st year!!) and as the organizer of The Edmonton Blues Festival, has graciously donated a weekend pass for two to one of our lucky More Than 12 Bars listeners! This week's show is dedicated to Paula's brother, Roy who suddenly passed away earlier this week. Roy was a man of few words but always loved a good kitchen party and a great sing-along. And if it's a party you're looking for - then look no further than the Blues Bender in Vegas. This weeks show highlights some of the artists you'd hear if you were lucky enough to be going with thousands of other blues fans to this amazing 3 day festival. Raise a glass - this one's for Roy.

This week's show of More Than 12 Bars is whole-heartedly inspired by our fellow curator, friend, and Canadian Blues legend Mr. Harpdog Brown. Paula shares some personal stories, plays some of his great music, alongside of a plethora of other harp based blues in honor of The Dog... but the pinnacle of this show is getting to hear Harpdog talk about his life and his connection to the blues... because... for a few moments... it feels like he's still here. Please join us at 7:30pm Sunday January 23rd when we'll raise a glass and celebrate a remarkable man while celebrating one of the things he loved most - the blues. RIP Dog ❤

Tonight's show was recorded on January 6th and was supposed to air on the 9th... but then, in the early morning of the 7th of January, we heard the devastatingly sad news that our dear dear friend, a major contributor and embassador for Canadian Blues, the one and only Harpdog Brown had sadly and suddenly taken his final bow... and he peacefully passed onto that stage in the sky... to jam with his Blues Brothers for forever and a day. Although tonight's show was recorded with an enthusiasm for the new year ahead, it feels a bit disingenuous considering the circumstances... because we all miss him... very very much. You can be sure that next week's show will be dedicated and curated with Harpdog in mind and in heart. But tonight? Tonight we celebrate the blues and the new year ahead as our buddy would have wanted. ❤

"It is with great sadness to have to inform all of Harpdog's fans.. friends.. and everyone he has touched.. that the legend himself passed away today in his home. Peacefully.. now he will be jamming with all his music mentors he talks of and loved to play their songs. He loved you all!"

Harpdog Brown was more than a curator at this station - he was a legend in his own right. He lived and breathed the blues and made no excuses for it. He was one of my oldest musical friends and he will be missed very very much.

In honor of our talented friend - Big E will be celebrating his life and his music all day Sunday by running Harpdog's shows for the entire day and, of course, spinning his own fabulous tunes. May he rest in peace ❤

HO HO HO and a HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU! We're celebrating this wonderful time by playing a boat load of really groovy very cool Christmas blues music this Sunday night. Tired of 'Silent Night' or 'Jingle Bells' or even, dare we say it, Michael Buble? Well we've got just what you need to heal those standard music selection woes. So Sunday night - grab the eggnog, put on the Christmas onesie and move the coffee table 'cause we be dancin'!! And sprinkled throughout the show will be local legend Hank Lionhart with selections from his Blues Christmas Show! Merry Christmas from all of us here at Big E Radio xoxox

This week Paula is joined by her fabulous talented friend Dale Ladouceur and she brings with her an abundance of admiration for Frank Zappa. Soooo... We're honoring Zappadan and devoting this week's show to Frank! Wait. What? On the blues show? Yeah. Zappa actually played the blues! (Paula didn't know either.) Dale sheds some light on the man the myth the legend and we'll hear some really cool s**t. There's nothing standard about this week's show - it's Zappa blues and it's way more than 12 bars.
