Ladies and Gentlemen,

It’s that special time of year again – the Terry Fox Run.

This cause is deeply personal for Skylar. When she was just starting Junior Kindergarten, she lost two uncles to cancer within a short time. Even at such a young age, she felt the impact of that loss and developed a passion to do her part so that fewer families would have to face the same heartbreak.

Since then, Skylar has worked incredibly hard during the short fundraising window each year. In fact, for her first three years of school, she proudly became the top fundraiser in her school each year. Her dream is to raise $10,000 by the time she finishes Grade 8.

Here’s what she’s achieved so far:
• Junior Kindergarten: $653
• Senior Kindergarten: $672
• Grade 1: $725
Total Raised to Date: $2,050

This year, her personal goal is to raise $1,000.

Last night at bedtime, she told me she really wanted to raise $5 million, because in her words: “If I did that, there would be no cancer left in the world to kill anyone.” While we talked about setting smaller, realistic goals on the way to her big dream, her heart and determination show exactly why Terry Fox continues to inspire generation after generation.

Skylar also understands that not everyone can give financially. But even the simple act of sharing her fundraising page helps spread the word. One share could reach ten new people, and if even one of them donates, that’s a step closer. If those ten share again, the ripple keeps growing.

That’s how big dreams are achieved – one step, one share, one donation at a time.

On behalf of Skylar, thank you so much for supporting her efforts to continue Terry’s legacy and raise hope for a cancer-free future.

Seven years ago, my journey with mental health struggles led me to begin selling off all of my photography gear. By five years ago, I had let go of the very last piece. Photography—especially nature and wildlife photography—had always been my strongest coping mechanism, and my dream was to one day become a National Geographic photographer. But at that time, I no longer had the strength or passion to carry on with it.

Over the years, many people reached out to tell me how much they missed my wildlife images and stories from my adventures. Deep down, I wanted to return to photography. However, the past two years brought major health challenges, followed by the devastating loss of a family member last summer. I found myself at rock bottom again—facing extreme depression and a loss of purpose.

What began to change everything for me was love. Two incredible ladies stood by my side, day after day, reminding me of my worth and showing me what true love really looks like. Slowly, I began to smile again. But my true spark came back when a very special young lady looked me in the eyes and said:
“I want to go camping. I’ve never camped in a tent or been in a canoe, and I want to experience it with you.”

At first, I asked if she was sure, knowing the challenges that come with backcountry adventures. She simply giggled and said, “Yes. I want to see the animals you’ve told me about, sleep in a tent, and paddle through the wild with you.”

So, the planning began. Our first trip was an ambitious one—about 150 km through the backwoods of Algonquin Park, including one of my favorite places: Hailstorm Creek. The trip turned out to be a huge success, surpassing every expectation. Ever since, she’s been sharing her excitement about the moose, bears, wolves, and countless other incredible encounters we experienced together.

Then, in August, she surprised me again: she wanted to go camping for my birthday, before school started. Before long, we had mapped out a 3,000+ km road trip that would take us deep into the wild once again—this time into a place that nearly claimed me back in 2018: the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve.

We set up camp at Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park and spent days exploring highways, backroads, logging trails and hiking trails from west of Timmins all the way up to Missinaibi in Chapleau. Our mission was to find a legendary animal I first learned about on that near-fateful trip years ago—the elusive white moose, also known as the Spirit Moose.

Though we didn’t cross paths with a Spirit Moose, we did encounter something even rarer—an animal so uncommon it hasn’t been documented in this area in over a century, and only a handful of times across Canada. Out of respect for the wildlife and to protect them from disturbance, I won’t share exact locations, but I’ll be revealing more about this extraordinary discovery soon.

This journey has also led to a new beginning for me. I’ve recently picked up a Cannon DSLR camera again and will slowly be rebuilding my gear—this time not out of a pursuit for recognition, but out of love for the wild and the joy of sharing its beauty.

Thanks to this amazing young lady, I’ve rediscovered my passion for nature, photography, and life itself. I can’t wait to share more photos and stories from our adventures in the wild.

Stay tuned—because the journey has only just begun.

(Images attached are from previous photo shoots many years ago) pics from these trips will come soon.
