Sadie and Sugar Cane Archaeology have successfully completed a project located along the Fraser for the Bighorn Sheep Habitat Restoration Project. Over eight field days, the crew recorded 27 new archaeological sites and revisited 5 previously recorded sites.

They climbed over 3,000 meters in elevation! Great job embracing the challenges, much like the sheep themselves!!

-Congrats, team!

Way to go Crew!

It’s a wrap on SCA’s archaeological survey project along the Fraser River in support of a Bighorn Sheep Habitat Restoration project. Over 8 field days, the crew recorded 27 new archaeological sites, revisited 5 previously recorded sites, and climbed over 3000 m in elevation.

In fact, the crew did such great a great job that they were rewarded with a helicopter on their last field day! We swear it had nothing to do with the fact that the area was otherwise inaccessible by truck, quad, or walking. 🚁

A big thank you to 49 North Helicopters for the lift today!

March 31st - April 4th, 2025

Congratulations to Sadie and Savanna on their successful completion of the RISC Course with Sugarcane Archaeology!

We want to take a moment to celebrate their week of RISC and CMT training. A BIG thank you to Wes and Tina for imparting essential skills and invaluable principles to our Esk’etemc Land Guardians, equipping them to make a meaningful impact in the field.

Our ELG had a remarkable opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, such as coring a tree to understand its history, practicing the importance of flint knapping, exploring significant archaeological sites, and building meaningful connections with the dedicated crews from SCA.

Weytk!

The Esket Land Guardians have been in full swing for the field season, and while we are a bit behind on some posts, here's a great update! From March 24-27, the ELG had the opportunity to meet with the Skwlax Land Guardians. We began with brief introductions and shared knowledge on how to collaborate and build effective programs. The Skwlax Land Guardians also took the ELG on land tours to showcase the projects they are currently working on.

We were fortunate to hear incredible stories about their traditional territories, making it an amazing experience to strengthen our relationships.

See you soon, Skwlax!

Cultural Burning Workshop Recap with Alkali Lake Resource Management

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Francis Johnson for inviting our Esket Land Guardians to participate in the Cultural Burning Workshop held on March 10th and 11th. This enriching event provided a platform for our team to engage in insightful discussions with various communities and partnerships with the Ministry of British Columbia.

Over the two days, The roundtable talks fostered an environment of collaboration and mutual learning, allowing participants to exchange valuable perspectives on the significance and practices of Cultural Burning.

We are excited to continue deepening our understanding of Cultural Burning, emphasizing its importance in land stewardship and ecological restoration. Thank you once again for providing our Land Guardians with this opportunity to connect, learn, and grow alongside fellow community members.

Kukstemc.
