"Let's Talk Healthy Communities" drop ins have just started. It's our way of having intentional conversations about how we keep each other safe and healthy at Lilac Place. We are currently revisiting our community agreements which help us all navigate our space with ease and mutual respect and we are hoping to get your input.

This week we started off strong with discussions around communication, community health and safety. Here is a taste of what came up.

Join Sarah Monday August 25th at 6:15 pm for a Zine making workshop.

What's a Zine you ask?

A Zine is short for magazine or fanzine. It is a self published little booklet that is easy to make and has so much potential for creative self expression. They can be just for you, or you can make copies and share them. Some people even sell them!

Welcome Nicole our new student facilitator at Lilac!

Nicole is finishing up her schooling here at Lilac through a placement. She is a wonderful addition to our team. Full of ideas, patience, and willingness to learn and adapt, Nicole's support is a gift that will only make our space even more welcoming.

Our August coffee table book is here!

"Believing" by Anita Hill examines the ongoing issues surrounding gender-based violence, including her own personal experience with domestic violence and the pathways to meaningful change.

To read our coffee table, we invite you to stop in for a warm beverage during our drop-in hours, Monday-Thursday 10-12, or Tuesday evenings 5:30-7pm.

Human Trafficking usually isn't what it looks like in the movies. Most times, survivors will be trafficked by someone they already know.

Know the signs:
- A new relationship that involves secrecy, gift giving, and control surrounding dress, family/friends, routine, or finances.
- Hesitancy when asked about a new person in their life.
- Frequently moves or is unaware of their surroundings.
- Signs/feelings of fear or intimidation.
- Other signs of abuse, such as unexplained injuries, bruising, or malnutrition.

Then, break the silence:
If you or someone you know is experiencing human trafficking, contact the Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline 1-833-900-1010.

Introducing one of our newest staff members Pancakes.

If you haven't already met her, know that she is often in our office meandering about, giving cuddles and entertaining everyone. She is soft, teething and so loveable.
