So much gratitude in my heart 🤍

Thank you to everyone who has purchased my { heart - made } cards so far. What started as something that feeds my soul and creativity is now helping feed others in our community.

Funds from this first round of sales were used to purchase dehydrated, food-rescued meal packets from Aangen ( l) — a Canadian social enterprise that prepares and packages each meal with 50% of daily nutrients.

I’m so proud to share that these meals have been donated to the Windsor Women’s Welcome Centre. () When I dropped them off, the staff shared they’ll be included in move-out packages for women and families transitioning into more stable housing 🏠

A few powerful reminders of the impact they make:

• Their mission is to reduce the impact of homelessness and poverty in our community
• From Jan–May 1, 2025, they provided emergency shelter to 162 families and 279 single women
• In that same time, they housed 35 single women and 34 families, helping them take critical steps toward long-term stability

It’s a touch up Tuesday. 🎨

Did you know this was a B&W produced photo when it was first developed and then it was hand coloured ? I have a special place in my heart for these images because they resemble photographic paintings. Imagine if you had to go through that process just to get that portrait of you and your loved one?

I scanned the original of this photo and restored the markings and blemishes to get that work of art back. 🥰

Our photos and memories deserve care and attention so they can be preserved for future generations.

QUICK TIP: Make sure your photos are not stored on the floor of your basement. In chance of flood if they are elevated, they are less likely to have damage.

On older printed photographs, sometimes there is a story to be told on the backs of them. It's like flipping over a leaf to find new markings.

One of our customers was unsure as to which time frame these studio photos had been taken of her ancestors. But we noticed the "POST CARD" markings on the back and were curious if they would give us some answers.

Here is what we found out...
-These photos are called Real Photo Postcards (RPPC)
-They were often developed on the spot and captured with very high-quality lenses which make them ideal candidates for digitizing and enlarging
-On March 1, 1907 there was a federal legislation passed that allowed senders to write messages on the back of the cards they sent
-The stamp box in the top right corner helps us to identify the paper manufacturer and pin point the date range where it may have been produced!
-The first image below was NOKO paper (produced between 1907-1920)
-The second image below was AZO paper (produced between 1926-1940) (Notice this image also has a spot for correspondence and address which was made available after the legislation was passed)

I loved discovering these answers for my customer and helping to fill in some of those blanks!
