The waxed canvas used on the product is made using a specialized process that was created in the 1800's. Martexin Original wax has a superior finish that is made with an environmentally friendly blend of waxes that is non-hazardous. This fabric process creates a lifelong resistance to weather and it will develop a beautifully worn look. The 100% cotton fabric will show scratches and become destressed but will continue to look better over time as it develops its own patina.

It is with mixed emotions that I write this post. Effectively immediately I am closing The Village Cauldron.

I understand now why most eating establishments close over Winter.

We struggled to keep going all last Winter into late Spring and early Summer. High season was just 5 weeks and as September hit, business went down drastically. It has been like a ghost town, especially with the construction going on right in front of the building. Business did not pick up after it finished and I have to make the sad decision - to close.

I am so grateful to all of you that supported me through this risky endeavor, but like the song goes ‘you need to know when to fold 'em’, ‘know when to walk away’ and now seems the right time for me to close before it gets any colder. I do not have the means to close and reopen in the Spring.

Going over the numbers from January to now I paid $4300 and change on water deliveries, an insane amount, and knowing that the water won’t be hooked up and the building possibly going up for sale in the Spring, it seems foolish to carry on.

Again, I would like to thank all my customers and my friends that supported my efforts. A big shout out to Steve n Simon for helping with all kinds of jobs and of course my family who have always supported me. Lorraine you are the best and I am sorry it didn’t work out like we dreamed! To Ela that helped me all last Winter thank you!

I would also like to give a big thank you to Jon & Erin from Sissiboo Coffee Roaster and Darren from Bear River Vineyards for their ongoing support of The Village Cauldron Cafe
