Tripping and Trekking We're Jaime and Jaime and we love to paddle, hike, and explore Ontario's world class backcountry. Welcome to Tripping and Trekking!

Along with our trip reports we enjoy sharing relevant tips, deals, and news with our community. We are by no means experts, but we try to help other campers whenever we can. Come with us us on the long portage into Triangle Lake from Cox Lake in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park.

This portage is the 3rd longest in the park at 1160 metres (Maps by Jeff certified) and has a steep 14° decline over 140 m desending into Triangle.

Cooking, testing, and reviewing SLY Foods General Tao freeze dried camp meal. We love the taste and texture of all the amazing ingredients! Not too spicy but flavorful and extremely satisfying!

We give this one a 9/10 and will definitely be adding it to our list of go-to meals!

We would like to take a moment to thank our amazing followers for a few big milestones we have reached recently at Tripping and Trekking.

First, we have surpassed 1500 followers which had been a long term goal for us over the last few years. It seems like yesterday that we weren't on anyone's radar, but now things have changed and we've proudly become a trusted source in the camping community. Our new goal has already been reset to 5000 followers. Onward and upward!

Second, a few "viral" (to us) reels and a noticeable uptake in viewership. This is 100% due to the community of likeminded, down to earth campers that enjoy our content and nudge the algorithm to share it with others! One of our reels has reached 56,000 views and our latest reel hit 10,000 views in just over 24 hours!

These small, yet significant events have been extremely rewarding for our little operation. As always, we appreciate the love and support we get from both our longterm followers and all of the new ones we've made in 2026. We hope you continue to enjoy our content as much as we enjoy sharing it with you!

Here's a great camping hack for hitting the water early!

Bring a shammy to dry off all the moisture on your tarp and tent fly (whether it be rain or dew) and you'll speed up drying time significantly or at least be able to pack everything up relatively dry.

This also works well for cleaning and drying your canoe.

Our final day in the park saw us well rested and ready to tackle the 2 remaining portages of our trip. We really enjoyed our time in the park and will definitely be planning a return trip in the near future to explore some more!

Day 3 of our Killarney Adventure saw us finally hiking up Silver Peak (which we opted to skip in 2020 on our LaCloche hike). Unfortunately, due to the wildfire smoke, we were not treated to the epic views of the park, but to a sepia toned haze blanketing everything. Nonetheless we enjoyed our hike and made our way back to David Lake to rest up and relax for our paddle back to the launch the next day.

Sorry for the long wait! Day 3 and Day 4 of our Killarney trip will be up soon!

I had to take a little bit of a hiatus for work purposes as these adventures don't fund themselves. I was busy working the Boots and Hearts Country Music Festival north of Barrie over the last 10 days. It's fun work with great people and we get to work outside on cool events. There's definitely worse ways to make a living!

Now I'm back and have the time to finish up editing our recent trips. I'll have them out as fast as I can without sacrificing quality. We hope you've been enjoying the short form video format that we are using recently to episodically share our adventures directly here on Facebook.

After we finish with our Killarney adventure, we will be posting a short video series covering our trip into Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park.

Then we've got to get busy planning some late season trips, our deer hunting season, and some cool winter camping expeditions. Still lots of time left to explore in 2026!

The second half of Day 2 saw us portaging in 45°C humidex into Boundary Lake from David. The air was thick with the oncoming wildfire smoke as we made our way. After a difficult portage, we scouted out the access to the Silver Peak trail at the east end of the lake before making our way to our campsite to cool down and rest up for the night.

Day two of our Killarney adventure had us paddling from Balsam Lake, through David, to Boundary Lake. Here's Part 1 of Day 2 that gets us to the portage into Boundary.

Our paddling adventure in Killarney Provincial Park had us paddling Bell, Three Mile, and Balsam Lakes for a relatively easy Day 1. Our sight on Balsam Lake was really nice and we enjoyed a warm evening before calling it a day.
