A beloved Athabasca tradition!

The 31st Annual Community Christmas Dinner once again brought neighbours, families, and friends together for a warm and welcoming celebration.

Year after year, it comes to life through the dedication of many volunteer groups, service clubs, local organizations, kitchen crews, musicians, and countless helping hands who work quietly behind the scenes to create a meaningful evening for the whole community!

🎄✨’Twas the night before Moonlight Madness
In the Town of Athabasca, so bright,
And everyone was bustling,
Preparing for a magical night.

Local shops trimmed with sparkle,
Stacked their best sales with care,
In hopes that the whole community
Soon would be there.

Fireworks lit the winter sky,
A parade rolled down the street,
A bonfire warmed the crowd,
Sending sparks into the sleet.

Free hot chocolate in mittened hands,
Shared with laughter and cheer—
Moonlight Madness in Athabasca:
The hometown night of the year. ✨🌕

One of Athabasca’s most precious gems is the Nancy Appleby Theatre — and we use it well! From local theatre and high school productions to movie nights, concerts and dance recitals, there is always something happening on our local stage.

This past weekend, we had a hoot and some hearty laughs watching the Athabasca Follies comedy show put on by Theatre Athabasca featuring some familiar local faces and some good ‘ol small town humour — also featuring some amazing half time performances by Karley Bilsky and Dana Strong accompanied by Will O’Donnell and Bryan MacNeil.

Merry Makers Christmas Market in the Athabasca Legion Branch 103 Basement from 12-9PM

Frost & Flame Art Show and Sale at Creative Cats Art Studio (The Station) from 6-9PM. Visit with Santa, make some art, and enjoy free hot chocolate!

AU celebrated 301 long-service award recipients and 2,840 years of combined service to the university!

What a fantastic 2-day event honouring the commitment and achievements of AU’s employees as well as learning and connecting on our beautiful main campus at the Academic and Research Centre.

It’s Spooky Season at The Station! Be sure to check out all the hauntingly beautiful local art from October 8th-November 1st | Open 12-4pm Wednesday through Saturday.

A great evening was had by all at the Eerie Expressions Art Show and Sale on Friday, October 10th as we enjoyed some snacks, poetry, mingling, and meeting the artists. 🎃

On October 1st and 2nd, Athabasca University hosted the Town and County Council Forum. This event, a collaboration between the Athabasca District Chamber of Commerce and The Athabasca Advocate, is a tradition in local democratic process, allowing residents to engage directly with those seeking office and provides a vital platform for candidates to address key local issues and for community members to make informed decisions.
