With a bid of $100,000, a group called the Buyback Friends has won naming rights for this pretty Chincoteague pony filly. This filly is a buyback, which means that she will live wild on Assateague Island for the rest of her life. A small number of buybacks are selected each year to maintain herd numbers.

The $100,000 is a donation to the CHINCOTEAGUE VOLUNTEER FIRE CO., who owns and manages the wild herd. The money will go towards firefighting operations as well as herd management expenses.

This bid has broken the record for highest paid—or rather, donated—for a pony sold at the auction. What a fitting way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Pony Penning and the Fireman's Carnival!
