Sad news - she was a groundbreaking legend.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Diane Crump, a pioneer whose courage reshaped our sport. In 1969 she became the first woman to ride professionally at a major Thoroughbred racetrack. On May 2 1970 she made history again as the first woman to ride in the Kentucky Derby. From Spring 1969 through Spring 1984 she won 79 races at Churchill Downs and later served the sport as a trainer.

Our condolences to her loved ones.
