East Elgin Secondary School teachers Derek Folkard, left, Dean Emmons and Rob Smith lip-synched to the song “I’m Just Ken” from the “Barbie” movie as they opened a four-day lunch hour competition on Tuesday, April 23. Six teachers and student Ellery Beilhartz were involved, the latter creating a “mash-up” of songs that also in-cluded “Ice Ice Baby,” “Eenie Meenie,” “Unspoken,” “Die Young,” “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Umbrella.” Mr. Emmons also received a special tribute act on the final day of the contest to salute his retirement after 35 years teaching at EESS. Pictures of that tribute, and other acts in the competition, are featured in the May 1 edition of The Aylmer Express. (AE/Rob Perry)

Front left, Darren Shackelton of Shackelton Landscaping and Christine Spicer of Aylmer Minor Ball Association were joined by the AMBA Miller’s Independent 15-and-Under team members on the new pitching mound at the Optimist Park diamond on Monday night, July 17. Mr. Shackelton, who is a coach of that team, provided at no charge, the labour and equipment needed to install the mound. The annual Colours on the Beach festival was held Saturday, July 15, on Port Stanley’s Main Beach. Organized by Indian Culture and the South-Asian Association, both of London, dozens of people of all ages participated with little regard for the overcast skies and light rain. Everyone laughed and danced, as they spread the vivid coloured powders associated with the Hindu festival of Holi. Ashley Southerin, left, and Kennedy Matuschak, of Port Stanley, couldn’t stop laughing. (AE/Joe Konecny) Find more on page 14 in the July 19 edition of The Aylmer Express.

Members of Aylmer Minor Ball’s two 15- and 18-and-under ball teams took to Optimist Park Thursday night, July 13, to practise their skills. Runner Philip Peters, left, on the other hand, was tagged out by Landon as he played second base later in the training. Minor Ball has two teams with nine players each in the combined 15 and Under and 18 and Under house league division, so if not enough show up for a game, coaches devise ways to hone skills and have fun.
