Murdoch has around 8 rides under his belt now, and he’s still figuring out how all of this works. In the turns, I stay patient and give him the time to find the answer instead of pulling him around. He’s also still lacking forward motion, so I’m using my seat a lot and being consistent and firm about asking him to move forward.

At this stage, it’s not about making everything look perfect. It’s about helping him understand that my seat, legs, hands and energy all mean something — and giving him enough time to connect the dots.

Our beloved Freya is for sale !

2023 registered in the heritage division as a half Gypsy ( Quarter Horse × Gypsy Vanner)
Expected to mature around 14.3 hh

Freya is a sweet, smart young mare with a great brain and a fantastic work ethic. She is always the first one waiting at the gate, eager to come with you, and learns exceptionally quickly.

She has been handled almost daily since she was a yearling and has been lightly started under saddle with a strong focus on foundation. She walks, trots, lopes, backs up, stops, and is beginning to respond to leg and seat aids while developing softness in the bridle.

Freya is a nice mover with more “go” than “whoa.” She has been ridden in an outdoor arena, fields, and along range roads, rides alone or with other horses, and has been exposed to a variety of obstacles and we roped a dummy on her back.

She is easy to catch, saddle, and bridle and has shown no buck, bolt, rear, or kick.

Freya is ready to go in many directions. She could make a great ranch prospect, all-around horse, or versatile partner for someone looking for a young horse with a solid foundation to finish their own way.

She is also very people-oriented and family friendly on the ground. She enjoys attention and is happy to be brushed and handled, although because of her age and current level of training, she is best suited to an intermediate or experienced rider.

The only reason Freya is available is because she is ready for her next chapter. She thrives on learning and having a purpose, and we cannot give her the consistency she deserves.

She is UTD on feet ( on a regular farrier schedule over the last 2 years), dental ( May 2026), deworming and vaccine.

No known health or soundness issues.
PPEs are welcome.
Assistance with shipping across Canada and the USA is available at the buyer’s expense.

Today, we heard the heartbreaking news that Nova — Talma — has passed away.

Our hearts are broken, and we can only imagine the pain her new owner is feeling. We are incredibly grateful that, for her last two months, Nova knew love, peace, kindness and what it felt like to truly be cared for. She deserved that.

When a horse leaves our program, we don't simply stop caring because the training is done. We follow their journeys, celebrate their successes, love receiving updates and remember every horse who has passed through our hands. They leave a little piece of themselves with us.

Nova's story is also an important reminder of something we cannot say enough: basic horse care matters.

Deworm your horses.
Get their teeth done.
Take care of their feet.
And please, do the damn vaccines.

These things may seem routine, easy to postpone, or like another expense — but they matter. What we do, or don't do, for our horses today can follow them for years.

Nova couldn't change her past. But she did get two months where she was safe, peaceful and loved exactly as she deserved to be.

Rest easy, sweet girl. 🤍

We had so many visitors today!

It was amazing to see how much interest there was and how many people came out to share our passion for horses.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, met our horses, and spent a little bit of their day experiencing ranch life with us.

We loved sharing a little piece of our world with you, and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Thank you for making this Open Farm Day such a special one!

Open Farm Days — tomorrow!

Just a little reminder before tomorrow.

Due to the very wet weather and our ground being completely saturated, we’ve had to make a few adjustments:

• One horsemanship demonstration at 10:00 AM
• Farm open until 3:00 PM
• Parking space is limited. Please wait for someone to direct you before parking
• Dogs stay home, please
• Dress for the weather — mud boots are highly recommended
• No smoking on the property

Thank you for helping us protect our very wet property and keep everyone safe.

Ehrenholz Farms Barrhead Alberta Open Farm Days

W***y and Waylon are brothers — but they couldn’t be more different.

Same owner. Same background. Same education. Yet two completely different horses.

Waylon naturally tends to stop, think, and process.

W***y came to us much more reactive and worried, almost wired to react first and think later. With him, one of our biggest goals has been bringing that thinking side of his brain into the conversation — and we’re still working on it.

That means W***y is taking more time with his foundation. More repetition. More opportunities to stop, process, and find the answer instead of simply reacting.

And that’s okay.

Training two brothers like these side by side is such a good reminder that horses don’t follow a timeline just because they share the same genetics, upbringing, or education.

W***y may need more time now, but in the long run, taking that time to build a solid foundation will pay off.

We’re not trying to make W***y keep up with Waylon.

We’re helping W***y become the best version of W***y. ❤️

It’s Open Farm Days! Come by, say hi, meet some of the horses, and see what we’re all about at Key 13 Horsemanship.

A few important things before you come:

🌧️ Because of the huge amount of rain we’ve had this summer and our property being fairly small, space for horsemanship demonstrations will be limited.

🚗 Please wait for someone to direct you before parking.With the wet conditions and limited space, we need to make sure everyone parks in the right spot.

🚧 Once we reach our maximum visitor/vehicle capacity, the gate will be closed to keep everyone safe and avoid damaging the already very wet property.

🥾 Dress for the weather! This is not the weekend for your nice white sneakers 😉 It’s time to dust off that cowboy hat, pull out those mud boots, and come spend some time at the farm!
