💡CURATOR SPOTLIGHT: Jemane Kent - HYPE💡

Q. What inspired you to become a curator/event producer?
A. I've always believed in finding genuine joy close to home. A game-changing experience at the "Roots" open mic showed me the power of community. That got me thinking, "why not bring that energy to Brampton?" Launching a high-energy open mic was my answer, and now, five years down the line, with the city's support, we're only scratching the surface of what's possible. GoldenMicTv has evolved from a local open mic to a dynamic platform with support from the city.

Q. What was the best show you've curated with us so far?
A. I feel like it's a toss up between “ForTheLoveOfHype” & Our Debut HYPE. Our Debut was a sign that this is something that we need - a show where you can really let loose and enjoy performances from local artists. No barriers, just vibes. ForTheLoveOfHype was our first themed event and the promo and turn out was just *chefs kiss.* The people truly came through for both events, and witnessing it was a real triumphant moment.

Q. What drives you to curate in Brampton?
A. I stand on being proud of the city I grew up in. The people, friends and genuine support I’ve received from this city is unmatched. I started an open mic out of pure whim and it blew up into a brand that champions local artistry. Not everyone wants to go to a club; We provide the same energy just in a different capacity. The environment we foster is one that is unapologetic, fun, supportive and is overdue for the city.

Q. What are you most excited about this season as a This Is Brampton curator?
A. I want to pull out all the stops and make each event unforgettable. Maybe by making it themed I feel like it provides opportunities for reaching different audiences. We’re just trying to change the way things are done.

In my element🫡📹

Sometimes I feel like things aren’t moving the way they should. I feel like I should be getting more.

But it’s patience. Going out and shooting things you like. Exploring. In there you can find that it’s not about speed - it’s about dedication and acting with purpose🤞🏾🙏🏾

Shooting events gives me so much joy and I’m really good at it! So sometimes pictures like these help me balance the thoughts in my mind

Reminds me to enjoy life as you deal with it🫡😌
