Not long ago, a brochure was enough to inspire someone to book a trip.

Today, the average traveler consumes over 300 minutes of travel content in the 45 days before booking. They're researching, comparing, imagining. And increasingly, they want to feel like they've already been there before they commit.

That's where immersive technology comes in. Someone can now stand inside a resort before they book a room, walk through a national park before they buy a plane ticket, and experience a destination in 360° from their living room before they ever pack a bag.

That's the work we do every day at Winged Whale Media. And after years of watching this industry evolve, we're more excited about where it's heading than ever.

Happy World Tourism Month to every destination, tourism board, and hospitality professional working to share their corner of the world! 🌍

Despite its name, "golden hour" isn't actually an hour.

Depending on where you are in the world, that window of perfect light can disappear in minutes. For most productions, missing it means coming back tomorrow.

In VR, there's no reframing. We capture every direction at once, so whatever the light looks like behind the camera is just as much in the shot as what's in front of it.

The solution? We plan around it. Early alarms, location scouting at the exact time of day we plan to shoot, checking sun position weeks before a production, and sometimes building an entire shoot day around a 20 minute window of light.

The result is better immersion. And the photos speak for themselves!

Almost every adventure we've ever had started the same way. A boarding pass and a window seat.

Aviation is so deeply woven into what we do that it's easy to take for granted. Remote islands only reachable by helicopter. Destinations that require multiple connections just to get the crew and gear there. Locations that most production teams would never consider because of how hard they are to reach.

Some of the most extraordinary places on Earth aren't easy to get to. That's kind of the point.

Without aviation, a lot of the stories we've had the privilege of telling simply wouldn't exist. The flight is often the first and last chapter of the production, and sometimes the most memorable part.

This week is National Aviation Week. Thank you to every pilot who has gotten our team where we needed to go!

Recently, our CEO Ed Limon joined the 2026 Cruise Stakeholders Symposium in Dominica virtually to speak on how AI is reshaping visitor experiences and destination competitiveness.

His setup? A laptop, a suitcase, and a cooking pot propped up as a makeshift prompter stand. Resourceful? Absolutely.

The talk covered a lot of ground, from demystifying what AI actually looks like in everyday life, to how destinations like Dominica can use it to personalize visitor journeys, bring history to life, and help travelers arrive with confidence before they even step off the ship. All delivered remotely, to a live in-person audience in Dominica.

One line that captures the whole session well: "AI can't invent an authentic experience. People create the experience. AI simply helps more people discover it."

A big thank you to Discover Dominica Authority for the invitation and for putting together such a great event.

These photos all have one thing in common. The smiles. The laughter. The look of complete disbelief. That's the moment an experience becomes a memory.

Research suggests immersive experiences can achieve knowledge retention rates of up to 80%, making VR a powerful tool for learning, training, and marketing. But beyond the statistics, the real value lies in creating something memorable.

Because people may not remember every conversation they had, every booth they visited, or every brochure they picked up. But they remember how an experience made them feel.

A heartfelt thank you to every person featured in these photos. Whether you were a government leader, tourism professional, educator, student, or simply curious enough to put on a headset, moments like these are exactly why we do this work.

Turks and Caicos has no shortage of stunning backdrops. Which is great for storytelling, and a little complicated for VR.

On a traditional shoot, if something's in frame that shouldn't be, you reframe and move on. Easy fix.

In VR, you're capturing 360 degrees simultaneously. Everything is in frame. Always.

That means somewhere in almost every shot we captured this week, at least one crew member is crouched behind a rock, pressed up against a wall, or carefully just out of sight. It's part of the job!

It also means every shoot requires a completely different kind of planning.

Where the crew stands, how equipment is positioned, how you work with the full environment around you rather than just the scene in front of you. Every direction has to be considered before you roll.

It's one of the things that makes VR production challenging to do well, but incredibly rewarding when it comes together.

This week, Turks and Caicos is our office!

Before the crew touched down, weeks of pre-production had already happened. Discovery meetings, location research, shot planning, and logistics. By the time they arrive, you'd think they've got a solid plan.

But then reality kicks in.

VR production doesn't give you much room to improvise after the fact. You're capturing a complete environment in every direction at once, so when the light shifts or a location looks different than expected, the crew has to adapt fast and know their gear well enough to make it work anyway.

That's exactly what this team does.

Look at the gang hard at work, making it happen no matter what the day throws at them.

Grateful to be partnering with Experience Turks and Caicos on this VR production.

Few places carry history and beauty quite like Shirley Heights.

Perched 490 feet above English Harbour on Antigua's southern tip, this 18th century military compound was Britain's watchtower over the Caribbean. More than 50 structures once stood here... barracks, signal stations, powder magazines, and a cemetery. All of it built to guard the Naval Dockyard below and protect vital trade routes across the region.

In 2016 it became part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but long before that designation, the ruins had already become something else. Every Sunday since 1981, Shirley Heights transforms into one of the Caribbean's most beloved gatherings.

Steel pan music, jerk chicken, rum punch, and a sunset over English Harbour that's hard to put into words!

History and celebration, side by side on the same hilltop. We've had the privilege of capturing it in VR multiple times for The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority.

Behind every great story is someone who showed us how to see things differently. For a lot of us, that's dad.

Fathers tend to shape how we think, how we take risks, how we figure things out, usually without meaning to. You don't always notice it at the time. It just becomes part of how we work and how we treat the people around us.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads and father figures out there from all of us at Winged Whale Media!
