TINFF 2024 Winner "Ray of Hope" Qualifies for 97th Academy Awards

Toronto, Canada — November 24, 2024 — The Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) is proud to announce that its 2024 Best Documentary winner, Ray of Hope, is officially in contention for the 97th Academy Awards. The multiple award-winning documentary has been included in the Academy’s list of eligible films for the Documentary Feature category, marking a significant milestone in its journey.

"Ray of Hope," directed by renowned Canadian filmmakers Ryan Singh and Nikila Cole, is one of two films from the eighth edition of the 2024 TINFF chosen as an official Oscars contender. Both selections further cement the TINFF festival's reputation as a global standard of cinematic excellence.

TINFF, recently nominated for the esteemed Canadian Choice Awards 2025, is both a Telefilm Canada and Canadian Screen Awards qualifying festival. It is honored to play a role in amplifying the voices and visions of outstanding filmmakers like those behind Ray of Hope.

The Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) and Blue Pictures Entertainment Nigeria have signed a partnership agreement that will not only bridge the gap but also facilitate collaboration between the Canadian and Nigerian film industries.

Mrs. Joy Odiete, President, CEO, and Founder of Blue Pictures Entertainment, Cinema, Production & Distribution Nigeria, and Mr. Isioro T. Jaboro, President, CEO, and Founder of the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) and the Brampton International Nollywood Film Festival (BINFF), reached this partnership agreement after several meetings in Toronto, followed by a meeting with Mr. Patrick Brown, Mayor of the City of Brampton, Ontario, and staff earlier this year.

Mrs. Joy Odiete will Chair the Advisory Board for TINFF and BINFF. She brings a wealth of experience haven worked in film and entertainment as a film producer, cinema exhibitor, film aggregator & Sales Agent, executive producer, and film distributor for over 20 years. Mrs. Odiete’s leadership and knowledge will be invaluable in guiding the festivals towards greater success and recognition in the international film community. Her passion for showcasing diverse and unique voices in cinema will surely elevate the programming for both festivals.
