Today, Megan McCoy’s Grade 6 class at St. Joseph Catholic School - Toledo started learning Python programming! Using the free Programiz online compiler, they built an interactive “Fun Name Generator” that:

• Stores names in lists
• Randomly picks and combines them
• Prints clear output with blank lines
• Pauses between steps for better flow
• Collects user input and stores it in variables

Our scaffolded PDF guide (Versions 1–4) is available here: https://bit.ly/fun-name-python Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario

🎉 Just Added to My TPT Store: Python “Name Generator” Lesson Guides for Grades 6–9! 🎉

Why You’ll Love This Resource:
🔹 Curriculum-Aligned Across Subjects
• Grades 6/7 guide meets Ontario Math (Coding & Data/Probability), Science & Tech, and Language expectations.
• Grades 8/9 guide incorporates Grade 8 Math/Science/Language plus Grade 9 Math (MTH1W), English (ENL1W), Science (SNC1W), and Technological Education (TAS1O).

🔹 Step-by-Step Coding Progression

Version 3: Generate n² random name pairs (introduce loops & lists).

Version 4: Use Python sets to guarantee unique combinations.

Version 5: Implement robust error handling for a professional-quality program.

Just starting? Go with Versions 1, then 2!

🔹 Engaging Data & Probability Exploration
• Students collect and analyze duplicate frequencies.
• Hands-on probability lessons: theoretical vs. experimental.
• Built-in charting tasks (Excel/Sheets or Matplotlib).

🔹 Communication & Tech-Literacy Skills
• Mini-reports, technical documentation templates, and oral presentations.
• Precise vocabulary: iteration, loop invariant, set membership, exception handling.

🔹 Extensions & Differentiation
• Alphabetical sorting, three-list combinations
• Portfolio-ready 150-word reflections & teacher feedback guidelines.

🔹 Teacher-Time Saver
• Fully laid-out lesson plans (4–6 × 75–90 min for Grades 6/7; 5–7 × 75–90 min for Grades 8/9).
• Ready-to-share code snippets and sample student solutions.

Perfect For:
• Math or Computer Studies teachers wanting authentic Python projects.
• STEM-integrated lessons and blended-learning labs.
• Substitute plans, after-school clubs, or professional-development demos.

Looking to integrate into Grades 6 and 9 in a meaningful way? I’ve created a teacher resource that connects directly with -style coding questions — helping teachers and students develop real skills while reinforcing mathematical concepts.

The resource guides teachers and students through:

✔ Planning with

✔ Using libraries and random values

✔ Creating and initializing variables

✔ Gathering user input

✔ Defining and calling functions

✔ Applying conditionals

✔ Printing results with f-strings
