There’s a space between “well” and “not well” that doesn’t have a map.
No language for it. No pace that quite fits.

This piece is about that in-between—about carrying a body that almost keeps up, almost belongs, almost lets you forget… until it doesn’t.

The desert didn’t ask me to be better.
It only asked me to be honest.

CHECK OUT MY LATEST SUBSTACK ESSAY! This piece is about more than just hiking—it’s about what it means to navigate life with chronic illness, the delicate balance between pushing forward and knowing when to rest. It’s about the weight of beginnings, the ghosts of who we used to be, and the strange, shifting nature of time when progress is never linear.

I wrote this during a stretch of good days, knowing that setbacks are always waiting somewhere down the road. But I also wrote it as a reminder—to myself, and maybe to you—that even in the unpredictability of chronic illness, there are moments of strength, of connection, of feeling at home in our own bodies.
This is one of those moments. And for now, that is enough.
I hope this piece resonates with you, wherever you are on your own path.
