What makes a medium roast 'medium'?

A medium roast strikes the perfect balance between light and dark roasts. It’s roasted to a point where the beans have developed enough flavour complexity without going too far into the bolder territory of dark roasts.

As we settle into 2025, I’ve been reflecting on the exciting milestones Urban Calm achieved last year.

2024 truly was a year of firsts for us—a time of growth, new opportunities, and meaningful experiences that shaped our journey.

To name a few:

-Collaboration (amazing with Underbelly in Kamloops)
-Attending CHFA food industry trade show in Vancouver
-Doing a demo live on stage (National Women's Show & Calgary Stampede - both exciting and nerve racking)
-Entering retails stores (Urban Grocer in Victoria & Shop Made Local in Calgary)
-Operating a coffee cart at a major event (Spruce Meadows Christmas Market)
-Guest on a Podcast (check out 'Resilient as Fk' through vanpbrandstudio.com)
-Last but definitely not least - first time launching a new line of mushroom coffee that was a top seller during Christmas.

With so many firsts, we had many exciting highs, and of course a few challenges as we navigated new territory. Doing new things can be a bit scary and intimidating, and I'd have to say the new experience that expanded my limits the most was doing live coffee demos on stage at two major events (Women's Show & Stampede).

Being on a stage live (no retakes!), talking and actively moving around doing a demonstration while having a mic and lights on me was a mix of nerve wracking and exciting. Overall, I met lots of great people and it was a lot of fun, and I loved introducing so many people to the Urban Calm brand.

With so much on the go this past year, my family and I took some much needed time off in Hawaii over the holidays and enjoyed some sun and beach time. During our break, I was reminded of how important it is to plan R&R to allow your mind and body to rest and reset so you can move forward with a good mindset and the energy to achieve your goals.

I wish everyone a wonderful New Year as we look forward to 2025 :)
