2021 brought with it many challenges, but growth in Alberta’s film and television production industry was not one of them. In 2021, our local production industry saw its highest employment and revenue numbers in 5 years!
In order to sustain this growth and support in scaling up operations, Calgary Economic Development and project partners the Government of Alberta and the Edmonton Screen Industries Office have engaged Nordicity to conduct research on Alberta’s film and television workforce. The aim of the study is to identify any current and emerging gaps in the labour market, and to develop a practical action plan to fill these gaps.
Today we are excited to announce the launch the Alberta Film/TV Industry Labour Market Survey. We need all Albertan producers, hiring managers, workers, and freelancers to participate in this survey. The results will feed into the development of an impactful action plan that addresses development in our local production workforce.

Project partners and key industry stakeholders including the IATSE 210 and 212, Alberta Media Production Industries Association (AMPIA), Directors Guild of Canada Alberta, ACTRA Alberta, DOC Alberta, Teamsters, FAVA, CSIF, Keep Alberta Rolling, the Calgary Film Centre and more will form a Steering Committee to review findings and co-develop an action plan to support labour force development in screen-based media production.
