Office of the Minister of Information Issues Clarification on the Status of Pan Akwaj and Aling

Juba , Friday, 12 December 2025

The Office of the Minister of Information, Communications, Technology, and Postal Services has today released an official clarification concerning the administrative status of Pan-Akuach Payam, Aliiny County in Ruweng Administrative Area.

The clarification follows an inadvertent reference made yesterday by the Minister of Information, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny, who mistakenly described the two areas as part of Unity State during a press briefing.

According to the statement issued by Mr. Chol Duang Chan, Executive Director in the Office of the Minister, the reference was an “unfortunate oversight” and has since been “duly corrected.” The statement emphasizes that Pan Akwaj and Aling are legally and administratively part of the Ruweng Administrative Area, not Unity State.

The Office further calls upon all media houses and communication platforms to update their reports accordingly to reflect the accurate information.

Professor Jok Madut: Ateny Ateny Wek is unfit as Minister of Information

Professor Jok Madut Jok has launches a strong criticism of Ateny Wek Ateny’s appointment as South Sudan’s Minister of Information.

In a statement, Professor Jok said, “Ateny Wek Ateny is unfit as Minister of Information. But since the whole government of Salva Kiir is not good in serving the people anyway, it probably deserves Ateny as its Spokesperson! But if the government wants to improve its image nationally and internationally, Ateny is not the man for the job – my opinion.

At the time of this publication, Ateny Wek Ateny has not yet responded to Professor Jok Madut Jok’s remarks.
