TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO APPLY FOR TWO EXCITING OPPORTUNITIES!

Apply for the Wildfire Development Unit if you have a piece that you’d like development support with, specifically if it’s interdisciplinary in nature, blending theatre creation with other art forms!

Apply for the Emerging Producer in Residence position if you have an interest in learning more about how to create and produce your own independent work!

Joseph McManus, one of our producers in residence for 2024/2025, had this to say about spending time with us last season:

“This program is a perfect launchpad for an emerging artist or producer. I got to receive priceless mentorship about not only past work, but also got a glimpse into current company operations, creating a well-rounded and relevant experience. The best part of this past year has been getting the opportunity to develop closer professional relationships with the folks I looked up to in my teens, and having them support my current projects through advice and connecting me with other theatre professionals is like a dream come true. These lil guys are the best!”

Thanks Joseph!

Deadline for applications is TONIGHT at 11:59pm.

ONLY THREE MORE DAYS TO APPLY FOR THE WILDFIRE DEVELOPMENT UNIT!

Apply if have a piece that you’d like development support on, specifically if it’s interdisciplinary in nature and blends theatre creation with other art forms!

Shyanne Duquette, a participant in our 2023/2024 Wildfire Unit has this to say about their experience developing their piece SKNHEAD:

“Working with Geoff and the MMMC team through Wildfire completely changed how I approach writing. It was a supportive environment that trusted my voice while challenging my work in all the right ways. I also love how collaborative it felt! The team invests in your process, not your product. SKNHEAD wouldn’t be where it is now without that process. MMMC helped me find the core of my play, building it with care, time, and community.”

Thank you for sharing, Shyanne!

Deadline for applications is Monday, November 3rd, 2025, at 11:59pm.

Do you have a project you want to share with the world but you don’t know how?
Do you have a burning desire to produce theatre but you’re not sure where to start?

The Major Matt Mason Collective is recruiting an emerging theatre artist for an artistic producing mentorship position! This year-long mentorship program is targeted to support an early-career Alberta-based theatre artist with an interest in creating and producing their own work.

Sophie Healey, one of our outgoing mentees from the past year, had this to say about their experience:

“I greatly enjoyed my time as an emerging producer-in-residence. As an early career artist who produces their own work, is incredibly valuable to get to see the inner machinery of a theatre collective. Thanks to this program, I’m much less intimidated at the prospect of writing grants, outreach, creating a budget, marketing a show, and getting from point A (ideas) to point B (execution)!”

Deadline to apply for this position and for our Wildfire Development Unit is this coming Monday, November 3rd, only five days away, so apply soon if you’re interested.

For more information about either opportunity please visit our website at mmmtheatrecollective.com and go to the Get Involved section!

Applications are being accepted for the Interdisciplinary Stream of our 2025/2026 Wildfire Development Unit, so apply if you’re an Albertan artist and have an interesting project or idea that fuses theatre practice with other art forms!

Day Chase, a participant in our 2023/2024 Wildfire Unit has this to say about her experience developing her TYA show Wanda’s Worry:

“If it weren’t for the Wildfire Unit, Wanda’s Worry would have remained a concept on a page. The Major Matt Mason Collective ensured I had the resources, space and team to support my vision and helped me create a piece that has become important to me, and to several children and educators. Even after Wildfire development, I have a show that continues to be performed and I continue to benefit from. I am forever grateful that I was given this opportunity to create something I wasn’t sure was even possible.”

Thank you for your kind words, Day!

Deadline for applications is November 3rd, 2025, at 11:59pm MT.

We are announcing calls for submissions two programs offered as part of our 2025/2026 season:
Our Emerging Artistic Producer in Residence program as well as the Interdisciplinary Stream of this year’s Wildfire Development Unit!
Both programs are looking for submissions from early career Albertan artists aged 30 and under.

************************

The Emerging Artistic Producer in Residence position year-long mentorship program is targeted to support an early-career Alberta-based theatre artist with an interest in creating and producing their own work.
The position offers mentorship from MMMC leadership, one on one workshops targeted towards the interests of the chosen artist, the opportunity to shadow MMMC producing and pre-production activities for the upcoming season, and consultation towards producing a theatrical project.

The Wildfire Unit’s interdisciplinary series supports Albertan artists or groups who are interested in exploring how non-theatre-based disciplines (animation, dance, installation, music, etc.) can intersect with theatre.
The year long development unit offers a $1,000 honorarium, dramaturgical, development, and producing support from MMMC, as well as a work-in-progress presentation in Calgary as part of MMMC’s Wildfire New Work Showcase Series presented with support from Sage Theatre’s IGNITE! Festival June 2026.

We’re ecstatic to be announcing the winner of our 2025 Wildfire Playwrighting Competition

Ameer Idreis is a Palestinian-Canadian writer, playwright, and urbanist who tells stories about culture, land, and self-discovery. Writing across form and genre, he has penned books, essays, poetry, and stories for the stage. His debut play ‘Ships in the Night’ won a Playwrights Guild of Canada Tom Hendry Award. He is also the co-founder and Creative Director of in draft co. — an arts collective supporting emerging writers. When he’s not writing, you can find him enjoying a flat white, curating niche playlists, and exploring Toronto’s neighbourhoods.

When Omar, a Palestinian editorial assistant, meets Isaac, a Jewish photographer, their date is complicated by their intersecting histories. Omar carries the trauma of the Nakba in his blood, Isaac holds an Israeli passport from his Birthright trip, and the ghosts of 1948 Haifa play out their own story against a backdrop of escalating war, displacement, and exile. With urgent, tender wit, Ships in the Night explores how political realities shape personal ones and the limits of love in bridging seemingly irreconcilable divides.

Congratulations, Ameer!
