Our client CIWA doesn’t shy away from difficult issues facing immigrant women. They asked us to create a film to address Addiction so that women would recognize it and know there is help available.
With an incredibly short timeline of 3 weeks, we faced a monumental challenge to create a story, a script, (thanks to theatre maestro ), source locations, props and sets, and hire actors. On week 3 we directed and shot the entire film in two half days, as well as edited all the video and audio in the rest of that week. We were exhausted afterwards but so proud to be a part of an important conversation. Pacific Coast Part 13: The Redwood National and State Parks in California are famous for the tallest trees in the world! There was something so surreal about being able to walk and drive through an old growth forest, sometimes so close that there were trees on either side of the vehicle! Being completely surrounded by Redwoods felt like being in the sanctuary of God.

When a Canadian NGO asked us to tackle the issue of corruption in developing countries, we decided to tell a story with animation. This project had a deep process, beginning with academic research, followed by story development, then a script, a screenplay, and a storyboard. Then there was extensive art direction and experimentation with different illustration styles. The final piece was created with hand drawn illustrations on an iPad using a frame by frame animation technique. It was laborious for sure but it ensured we had the control and precision we wanted for a sensitive topic. This video is the result of many weeks of team work. We are proud for a chance to help make a positive change in the world. Illustrations by our Chief Storyteller Gil Ngai.

Pacific Coast Part 12: Our road trip stopped abruptly on a Friday night at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge when one of the Westy’s wheel bearings disintegrated. However we couldn’t have broken down at a better place, as we came upon an exit at the exact moment and rolled into a parking lot in the Marin park lands. Here we enjoyed 2 nights of camping while being checked on by the friendly patrolling park rangers. We took the time to enjoy the area by bike. By Monday morning we found the BusLab just 15 mins away, a shop specializing strictly in VW vans! They had just in and out in the same afternoon. We certainly felt the favour and hand of God on this whole experience.
