In 2013, I had the honour of interviewing Marc Garneau during his run for leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada. He was criss-crossing the country and made a stop in Blackstock — I drove out from Orono to cover the event for the Orono Weekly Times. He generously gave me his time and left a lasting impression. Godspeed, Marc — a true gentleman. He was a giant of a man! hashtag hashtag

This past week, over 2,000 municipal leaders from across the country gathered in the nation’s capital for the annual Federation of Canadian Municipalities Tradeshow and Convention. Held in Ottawa, the convention provided a vital forum for local government leaders to come together and tackle pressing issues affecting communities from coast to coast to coast.

A major highlight of this year’s event was the announcement of the FCM’s new table officers for the upcoming year. Vancouver City Councillor Rebecca Bligh was acclaimed as President. Ottawa City Councillor Tim Tierney will continue on as 1st Vice President, with Thompson, Manitoba Councillor Kathy Valentino returning as 2nd Vice President. Dorval Mayor Marc Doret joins the table for the first time, taking on the role of 3rd Vice President. And rounding out the leadership team is Amy Coady, Councillor from Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador, who moves into the new role of Vice President At Large.

Throughout the week, we sat down with each of the acclaimed officers to hear their insights, reflections, and goals for the coming year.

We are five days away from the Calgary Brain Tumour Walk!

Every day, 27 Canadians hear the life-changing words: “You have a brain tumour.”

Brain tumours are unpredictable and complex — they can affect anyone, at any time, impacting everything from memory and mobility to vision, hearing, and emotional well-being.

The Cross Border Network Team will be walking to support the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada once again, and we need your help to reach our fundraising goal. Every dollar makes a difference in funding research, support programs, and providing hope to thousands of Canadians living with brain tumours.

Donate today and help us bring light to a journey no one should walk alone.

Did You Know? Every day, 27 Canadians will hear the words, “you have a brain tumour.” Brain tumours are unpredictable and complex. They can affect anyone at any
